I was in the library restroom washing my hands like any sane human being. Out of the corner of my eye, I hear some guy flushing the toilet in a stall. He gets out of the stall and just leaves. He doesn't wash his hands or anything.

WTF

I don't want to have to touch that dirty bathroom handle. I would use a regular paper towel to open the door knob, but this particular bathroom only had the blow dryer. I don't want to have to use toilet paper to open the door knob.

I think a simple solution would be for all public restrooms to just have the handle-less doors where you can just push them both ways. Although you're still touching the door, at least the germs are spread out over a bigger surface area.

I'm not really a germ-a-phobe in other situations, but we're talking about the bathroom here. How hard is it just to wash your hands? I realize washing your hands with soap doesn't get rid of all bacteria, but it's better than nothing.

Yeah, thats also the reason I push doors open at fast food places near the top cause all the non-hand cleaning people who just ate grease in bucket use the hand-bar and yuk

I just use my foot to open the door if possible.  I hate touching things in restrooms.  I love restrooms that have sensor-activated flushing, sensor-activated dryers, sensor-activated water...so that I can get through a public restroom experience with as little touching as possible.

that's almost every bathroom here in switzerland, but you still gotta touch the stall lock and door handle no matter what.

also, hand dryers are actually less sanitary than paper towels:

Quote
Other studies have found the hand dryer to be less hygienic than the paper towel. One paper (Ngeow YF, Ong HW, Tan P. Dispersal of bacteria by an electric air hand dryer. Malays J Pathol. 1989 Aug;11:53-6.) found that air dryers dispersed marker bacteria in a radius of three feet and onto the investigator's laboratory coat. Another study (Rebecca Montville, Yuhuan Chen and Donald W. Schaffner, Risk assessment of hand washing efficacy using literature and experimental data, International Journal of Food Microbiology, Volume 73, Issues 2-3, 11 March 2002, Pages 305-313) found that hot air dryers had the capacity to increase the bacterial count on the skin, and that paper towel drying decreased skin bacterial count. This is agreed upon by another study (Gould D. The significance of hand-drying in the prevention of infection. Nurs Times. 1994 Nov 23-29;90(47):33-5), which also found that the mechanical action of paper towel drying removed bacteria, which is something hand dryers cannot do.

That disappoints me because I like hand dryers better than paper towels. What can I say? I'm a tree hugger.

Also, I seriously think it is to gross to use a restroom, a public restroom of all places, and not wash your damn hands.

This would be my fantastic dream scenario:
The public restroom is only one room, obviously with a lockable door, with one toilet and one sink. You go in there and do your business, and by some miracle of machinery and computer thingies, the door doesn't open to let you out until you have run water in the sink and used the soap.

AWESOME.

How do you not pass out from your own stench? I can hardly stand to go a day without showering (but that's more because my hair gets all greasy than me smelling like a bum's nutsack).

Well I never hardly go out so as to not get sweaty and make it worse. Luckily I should get a health aid in the next week or two though (hopefully she's hot asian chick!)

This isn't the type of thing you share with people in the internet. Really.
