I just watched S1 last week, it's pretty damn awesome. Just be forewarned that it's way more 70s police procedural than it is supernatural horror mystery (though it is both).
And I know Patel agrees with me, but worth stating: A 70s police procedural centered on British police is DAMNED interesting, especially for us gaijin that know little about both the UK in the 70s, and British police shit in general. The way the, uh, "supernatural" stuff is integrated is done really well, too. The show takes a pretty ridiculous concept and makes it work swimmingly. One of the best shows in recent years, anywhere in the world.
Watch it now before David E Kelley's US take befouls it, and stupid gays on GAF are saying the US version, all Officed up, is better than the original! See how shitty US producers cram a new Jim and Pam/Sam and Diane/Ross and Rachel into a formerly brilliant show!
That said, if I wrote up a short list of people that I believe could do the concept justice in the US, David E. Kelley would likely make the list. The success of the Office doesn't give me much faith, on the whole, though.
