PS3 struggles in Japan continue despite price drop.
« on: November 12, 2007, 10:47:16 PM »
Despite the weekend launch, the price cut PS3 manages a feeble 36k on its first day.

I'm sure the fanboys are spinning this left right and center but this is a disaster.

with weak numbers to date on the board , a media blitz, and a price tag that is pretty damned reasonable, teams of people screaming with megaphones outside Bic etc, and with a game that the Japanese actually care about i am utterly shocked at how low this figure is and i suspect that number will drop off rapidly, maybe hitting about 75k for the week.

Sony expected there to be demand there - but there simply isn't.

Seriously - Sony fans , it really is time to start hitting the panic button because it's all going wrong.

Like a once championship horse that suddenly has gone lame, it's perhaps time to put a bullet in their neck by allowing Polyphony and TeamIco to go make some real money on other platforms.

Square Enix and Konami must be watching these results come in with horror.

First day/week is irrelevent anyway (remember the Euro Launch?). We'll see if PS3 maintains its sales, then it would be something to start celebrating.

Hasn't pretty much everyone that isn't Hideo Kojima said that MGS4 on 360 is a go at this point? It'll just hit a few months later like the GTA games used to.

Someone needs to convince the morans at S-E to put FFXIII and Versus on 360, and then we're pretty much good to go. It'd be really awesome going through this gen w/o even picking up a PS3, as Sony's first-party content doesn't really interest me aside from Team ICO.

Can we be fair here, for a minute?  The new consoles did come out on a SUNDAY.  And I don't know about the whole of Japan, but the weather here was certainly quite shitty Sunday and the shops I went to were pretty empty.

I didn't ask about PS3 systems, but my local shop had two Dual Shocks left, and had a shitload of Shin Sangoku Musou 5 PS3 copies behind the counter, all pre-ordered.

But seriously, the way things have been going, yeah...I could live without a PS3.  I love the upscaling and playing PS2 games on the system, but I could easily survive with my PS2, 360, and yes...WII.

At least the Uncharted demo is region-free now.  That's something to try...

Its too late lyte edge, gamers have gone from wishing for new unannounced PS3 titles to hoping devs of announced titles move their games to the 360.

What is this game?  I was laughing so quickly that I missed this the 1st time.

i think they'll scrap MGS4 and build a new game from the ground up for 360.

No need to work within the confines of the PSR.I.Pee when you have much better hardware to tap.

They might use some of the higher res assets they created, but the majority of the low res stuff they'll probably chuck away.

Damn, you're even more of a troll than me.   No wonder you've been the SDF's prime target for so long.

Is that enough to draw them in?  They didn't even care much for VF5 in Japan even though VF has been a staple of Japanese gaming for so long.

What really rams home their utter utter fail over here is that most stores have resorted to giving prominent PS3 shelf space to stuff like Rainbow Six and Madden. You could easily be forgiven for thinking that you were looking at the Xbox or Xbox 360 shelves.

All the stores around me prominently display DS and PS2 games.  Wii is second, followed by PSP, then PS3 in small sections, and 360...

...it gets like a shelf or two.   :lol

Actually there's a Joshin with a fairly large 360 section right near my place.

The logical side of me really wants the PS3 to succeed because I just bought the damn thing and I'm actually warming up to it.  I'm really digging all the functionality, Folklore turned out to be pretty cool, and that Uncharted demo has some of the best graphics I've seen anywhere.  So the potential is definately there for some great things.

But the emotional side of me wants to see the fucker tank just to watch the reactions over on GAF.  That alone would be worth 600 bucks.

it is indeed Chameleon club.

Lol - me and the missus had a choice of two locations to move to - we picked the one we are in because it DIDNT have a CC because we thought "Fuggdat, we'd spend all our wages there!"

two weeks after we moved in, a CC opened up. :( / :)

i prefered it 5-6 years ago when they had NO CLUE how much 2nd hand stuff was worth. I still lol at the Dracula X PCE that i got for , blush, 180 yen.

(i bought 14 games that day, all 180 yen a shot)

:lol Holy shit, kind of makes me happy if I end up moving to Tokyo later on down the line, then.  I frequent the CC near me 1-2 times a week occasionally hit up the other two in town...that 1000 yen off point card gets filled up pretty quick!  They moved down the road a few months ago and had an opening sale; I snagged Castlevania LoI for 100 yen, Zelda TP for 2400 yen, and Minna No Tennis for 1900 yen.

I also like that they give you a few hundred yen off for reserving a game through them. Which is absolutely free to do.  8)
