I generally have Starforce installed on my PC through one game or another. I've never had a fried optical drive, terrible performance, or any of the other supposedly awful gremlins that infest your system when it is "infected" by Starforce.
Note that I don't condone the DRM-it's pretty terrible-but I always thought that the overreaction to it from PC gamers was really ridiculous.
