Told you guys. Sony is really pushing units now. Not that I'd buy one, but despite my reservations about a non-backwards compatible unit, that 40GB price point has seem to really take off.
EDIT: And to elaborate, these are not folks buying PS3s for Christmas. Sure, a percentage might be, but for most retailers, the return policy for items is within 30 days - hence the fact that the majority of holiday spending on electronics occurs after Thanksgiving. No sense in buying a PS3 now if your kid hates and you can't return it. You'll hold off 'till after Thanksgiving.
