Help me Netflix
« on: November 15, 2007, 05:03:28 PM »
I just joined Netflix huzzah.

First, help me like figure out how to search correctly, I can't seem to get an alphabetical listing by genre or anything. Also, like, I want to look for all Criterion DVDs but when I do a search for "Criterion" it gives me all the Critters movies. CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR.

Second, recommend me some good non-shitty movies. Older stuff appreciated. My queue is empty, no reasonable offer will be refused.

i'd recommend sunshine if you wanna watch a good sci-fi movie. the plottwist is meh, but i loved it so much that i didn't mind it. the soundtrack is awesome, too.

Patel, have you seen CHILDREN OF MEN?  If not, stick that sucker at the top of yer q.

Also, search function for netflix is shit.  I would recommend using Criterion's site in another window and then looking up individual titles.

I saw Children of Men three times in theaters THANK YOU VERY MUCH. Including 11 AM on release day. DON'T QUESTION MY LOVE FOR THAT MOVIE.

I saw Sunshine while I was in Taiwan (lol it opened there 4 months before the US) and I was kind of disappointed, mostly because of the inane twist. Totally gorgoeus, though.

Personally, I find that I have mainly used netflix to watch tv shows on dvd.  NO COMMERCIALS is awesome, and not having to wait a damn week in between episodes is nice as well.

I mainly use bittorrent to watch TV shows on DVD lol. Actually, I tend to buy TV DVD sets simply because I feel they're a better minutes/dollars value; I may only watch it once, but I'm getting 10 hours instead of 2. for only 50% more than a regular movie.

But for movies I'm a bit more of a stickler for sound and picture quality.

Hey, TVC, what's that movie about Japanese hell. Is it just called "Hell"? (Jigoku)

Try the looking at the award winners, such the Palm D'Or, BFI and AFI lists, Oscars, and Independent Spirit winners,

Yes, Jigoku.  Very weird movie.  I recommend it.  It also has pretty cool visuals.

And you can tell me fun Jappy facts about it!

Here is my queue in "order I found movies on Netflix" order.

Lemme know what I should bumpity bump!

P.S. My first three movies were A Boy and his Dog, Road Warrior Blu-ray, and Hula Girls because who doesn't want to see a movie about nearly nude Japanese girls gyrating?
