Crysis: runs 'fine' and is pretty fun.
« on: November 15, 2007, 05:29:51 PM »
Not a bad game so far. If you ignore your powers its a pretty basic run and gun, but if you use your powers you can have some fun. For example chucking a fuel barrel at a boat off shore then shooting it after it lands in the boat. I also ran out of ammo a lot and was at one point throwing potted plants at people. I also liked driving the humvee I stole through the beams of this hut and watching it collapse around me.

I have a shitty CPU on my PC so it was a stutter fest but I enjoyed tossing up wooden crates and shooting them out of the sky. Meta gaming!

I'm going to hold off until I do some upgrades.  I know I can run it fine, but something like this, I want to experience it in its full glory, since it probably won't be fun to play through more than 1 time.  Or .25 times, if FarCry was any indication.

The Inquirer says that there'll be dual-core cards from both ATI and NV in January.  The great thing about a dual-core card is that it draws much less power than a SLI setup.

The suit rocks. Every game should have cloaking technology in some form

The AI gets better on hard and delta more than anything else. I thought turning it up to full made the game way better when I played the demo, as the more dynamic enemies encouraged you to use more diverse environmental interactions.

Also, AA is murderous on the ol' framerate. Play it at high everything but shaders/shadows/postprocessing for snappy framerates at monitor native res.

I guess free AA is still a myth then :(

Have you tried forcing v-sync on it yet, what kind of hit can I expect there. Lots of tearin without it :(

Then it wouldn't be the best looking game on the market, amirite?  I think I'll just wait for better hardware like TVC.

Getting a decent framerate > fancy stuff. The real gem of the game is the interactive environments and emergent gameplay IMO (at least from what I played in the demo).

Also, I would imagine that this is the sort of game that will benefit hugely from both patches and driver updates.  Patches because I think it was sort of rushed to release for Xmas (I really doubt the devs wanted to ship it quite this early, or if they did they thought hardware would be a bit better by now).  Driver updates because this is going to be used as a benchmark for driver devs for, well, the next year or so.

I'm anxious to get into it, but there are enough other good games out right now that I can put it off for a bit.

Fragamemnon is correct. Its a mixture of the visuals and crazy physics. As far as the interaction with various objects, it feels like a hugely open ended Half Life 2.

And you can kill fucken Turtles then shotput them

I got the game running what I would guess at 20-35 fps (which IS playable) at 1280x1024 with Textures/Objects High, shaders, post processing and effects on HIGH everything else on medium, no AA.

This works ok now, but the early game isnt that busy, trying a more active area soon. I dont need 60 fps, I need around 30 consistently.

Ok, in a busy fight I ended up settling for these settings at 1024x768 x4AA. I get playable FPS here even during busy parts.

I guess this game will need to be played with SLI'ed cards or something (or as SmoothGroove pointed out, use the new Dual Core GPUs)

Quad-core CPUs don't help that much although dual-cores are much better than single cores.

I need to be able to play at my native resolution, with at least 30 FPS, and I want most shit on medium to high.

High five.  I don't want to be like those dirty poors that played Quake 3 at 640x480 w/ everthing on low.
