Rilo Kiley's best album I think is More Adventurous because its more Jenny and less That Other Guy. Plus its an album with a lot of variety. I believe she did this CD after working with the Postal Service group, another CD with a lot of variety. In More Adventurous we see a lot of vocal range from Jenny than we see in previous CDs like Execution of All Things.
Execution of All Things is good, and granted, the writing may be a little bit better and more focused, but I only really started listening to Rilo Kiley for the vocals, so More Adventurous wins out.
However, her solo...well sort of solo aside from the Watson Twins back-up is a fantastic cd, and in my opinion some of her best work. I find a lot of the subjects covered in Rabbit Fur Coat to be a little less blunt, a lot more clever, and on the side, a wonderful peek at bits and pieces of the side of Nashville most people west of Colorado and east of Tennessee have completely forgotten about.
Dont get me wrong, its not straight country, and thats cool, becuase it allows fans of her work with Rilo Kiley to enjoy the music as a bridge to maybe some Neko Case...and reverse Neko Case fans can find it a bridge to the earlier works of Rilo Kiley and that whole genre of music.
She is definately one of my favorite female vocalists, the other two being Aimee Mann and Metric's Emily Haines.
