Just got home with my copy. Not sure when I'll have a chance to play it, though. I've got to go run some more errands and we're seeing Stars tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

So far, if you like the demo, you'll like the full game.

The graphics are really nice.  There's some slight screen tearing, maybe a smidgen worse than Assassin's Creed, but nothing I'll still notice in 10 minutes.  I just hope there's more than just jungles in the game.

As long as the tearing isnt like The Witcher's without forced v-sync i'll be ok with it.

So did you give it a 6.5 even before you put it in?  If you did, good job.  Hopefully you'll have full impressions by the time I come back from the clinic.  I need to decide if it's at least worth a buy for trolling purposes.

Don't all PC games tear about the same without v-sync?  I always have it on so I don't know.

So far, I am digging it.  Note that I did not play the demo very much, just because there have been so many good full games to play.  That said, there's more jumping and climbing than the demo indicated, so far.

The animations are so great, too.

I have to say that I am somewhat worried about it being Gears with different graphics.  I hope it avoids that.

most people give different action/platforming ratio's. like, some dude on gaf said it was like 85/15 while eurogamer said it was about 50/50. i guess it comes down to how you play it, or something. the more platforming the better imo.

Well, you see, bud, I was expecting a full on Gearsy experience, but there's already been like more platforming than there was in the entirety of Gears.  I'm not jumping around constantly like I am in a Ratchet or Jak game, but I do have to do it sometimes.  It's definitely weighted towards the shooting end of the spectrum.

Also, for what it's worth, I like the story and characters more than I did in the demo.  The demo isn't the beginning of the game.

Don't really have an opinion on the AI.  It's like, stop and pop-style AI, which isn't all that impressive to do correctly.  It tries to take cover, but not too efficiently, because then the game would be too hard.  Let's just say that so far, early on, the AI seems cromulent.

This is probably the first PS3 game I have played where there is not a low res texture to be found anywhere.  Also, the tearing kicks up a notch once there's a lot of water around.  Still not bad.

Smooth: Correct, HOWEVER, smart devs provide an option in game for vsync. Dumb ones make me going into Nvidia control panel and create a specific video profile and adjust all the settings on my own because it has to replace the legitimate in-game settings so I can have one unsupported setting.

Just wanted to give some follow-up impressions before I move on for the night.

I put in a few hours, and most everything was good until I got to the very end of the session.

I'm afraid the game is going to be rather repetitive, which is kind of a shame because the beginning was totally hot.  But it looks like the lion's share of the game is going to be Shootout in Jungle -> Walk a little -> Shootout in Jungle with the odd Shootout in Cave or Ruins thrown in.  Being that these are all stop and pop shootouts, the excitement is a little, well, tame.  There's also little variety in environments.  The beginning of the game takes place in a central/south american jungle, the next part is in a pacific island. . .jungle.  That looks identical to the first jungle.  Basically, they are getting a lot of mileage out of those (excellent) jungle art assets, but really, two jungles in two different parts of the world are not going to look identical.

Anyway, the last 30 minutes of my session was shootout, walk forward a "room," shootout, walk, shootout. . .all in a jungle environment.  And it got pretty not exciting fast.

But PS3 fans, give it a shot.  I was never big on Gears of War, personally.

I just made it past the section the demo covers.  I hope there's more of the tomb raidery stuff that was present at the beginning of the game.   That's what Uncharted needs to be about.

I like the way this game handles it's "achievements" btw.  They basically set the same goals like you'd normally associate with a 360 game's achievement list (100 headshots 30 pts, 5 close encounters 15 pts, etc.) but with each achievement earned you accumulate those points to spend on new items or cheats.  Really nice system.

I think I'm around section 6 or something.
Anyways, what's I found interesting about the battles up until now is that although the first couple battles are corridor sequences, they start to have more wide open spaces, or two story shootouts.  This actually provides from some interesting combat, as the cover differs for each area as well.  Sometimes the cover isn't enough so you'll have to manuever a bit more as opposed to pop and shoot.
as for the mix of shooting and platforming, I feel like its been a good mix so far.
I definately like the game, enough that its torn me away from COD4 multi.

edit: To be honest, I think the game pre demo is not as good as the parts after.  There is more platforming, and more dynamic battle settings.  You're out of the jungle at least.

So is it more Gears of War or Tombraider?  I needz to know.  If it's the latter, I'll put away Mr Gay for Uncharted.

The vehicle segment of Gears was the worst part of the game, so I am guessing it is better than Gears in that regard.

But there's only 1 vehicle level in Gears and it's really short.  Besides, the question was about whether Uncharted is more like Gears or Tombraider, not whether Uncharted is better than Gears.

I think it has firmly been established that Uncharted is more like Gears, since it focuses more on shooting than climbing.

Crap, I was hoping that people were exagerrating about the amount of shooting in Uncharted.  Despite my trolling about Uncharted being nothing more than GOW in a jungle, I was quite interested in playing it.  I guess I would still want to play it later on.  However, like you, I'm all shootered out at the moment, reagardless if it's 1st or 3rd person.

I'm up to around 14 or 15 now, and the game has picked up insanely.  The environments and mood have changed, the shooting is different thanks to the different guns available, and theres a couple big sections of platforming.  The whole beginning sequence now seems so...far away.  There's definately a 50/50 shooting platforming at this point in the game, although earlier there is more shooting.
Anyways, smooth, its probably a good idea if you save it for when you do feel like playing a shooter.  despite the sfags hyping it up and everything, it is actually quite a good game.

Yeah it definitley falls on the shooter side of things, and I was initially disappointed with that, but somewhere around the fort area the game really started to click with me.  The gunplay is actually quite fun.  If I had to give percentages from what I've played so far I'd say it's about 70% shooting with 30% platforming....but I've got a long way to go still.

And like I said, the driving seqences (the jeep in particular) are absolutely mindblowing.  Your lady friend drives while you man a grenade launcher with unlimited ammo and you just blow the living shit out of everything that gets in your way.  I know that sounds like sections you've played before in countless other games but let me tell you that you've never seen anything quite like this.   Explosions everywhere, trees falling down, bodies flying through the air all the while going through the best looking jungle section in the game.  I don't know whether it's the lighting or the motion blur or maybe a combination of both but I swear that part looks almost just as good (or maybe as good) as some of the Crysis footage I've seen.  Amazing stuff.

Ratchet and Clank Future blows.  Hard.  If you've played the previous R&C games then you've basically played Future which was  incredibly disappointing since it was one of the reasons I bought a PS3 in the first place.  Uncharted though has been a complete blast.  I'm really, really liking it.  Obviously your mileage will vary and I'm not sure if by itself it'd be worth the purchase of a PS3 but I'm enjoying a lot of the functionality of the system and the emulated BC (80gig) seems pretty solid.  I'm happy with the system and if I didn't already have a 360 I'd imagine I'd be even happier.

If you want to save a some dough, I'd probably wait 'cause with the way things are going we could see another price drop as early as first quarter of next year.

I've been playing for about an hour so far.  This is a really fun game.  Light, breezy, simple puzzles, decent voice-acting and dialogue.  It's very pretty, but I don't see why everyone's so moony-eyed over the graphics.  The illusion of reality is pretty thin when you can  walk right through some of the scenery.  Still, I'm having a good time with it.

Now that I'm up to chapter 17, I can say that I absolutely love this fricken game.  I've got Assassin's Creed sitting here but I can't tear myself away from Uncharted to play it.  Sure, I'm still shootin' a lot of shit but it just feels so good.

Surprisingly this has turned out to be one of the most fun games I've played all year.  Totally unexpected.

So has anyone here gotten to the "twist" yet?  I'd be interested to read what you guys thought of it.   It's funny how a game that completely borrows from Gears of War and Tomb Raider the entire game all the sudden apes another....or at least it seemed that way to me.

It's because of that gimped AI partner.  Jesus, could that fucker (Dom, is it?) walk into any more lines of fire?  Just stay hidden, distinguished mentally-challenged fellow, and let me play the game.

I hate AI partners or squads in most games.  My squad in the Brothers in Arms games made it feel more like I was playing Three Stooges in Arms at times.

Uncharted criticisms:

There's entirely too much shooting in this game, and sometimes it's frustrating because the enemies pop out of nowhere.  You can't ever see them very well, either, so the only way you know where they are at times is by taking 3-4 hits.

It's not very open.  I don't mind it that much, but it gets a bit tiresome jumping around all the time looking for a handhold in places that look like you should be able to climb.

Other than that, so far I'm still having loads of cheesy fun with it.

i just made it to the demo level.

when does this start getting good, because so far ....

It started to click with me around sometime inside the fort.

Uncharted is best played in small doses though.  Play it too long and it gets a little too repetitive.

I started liking it in chapter 3...I mean, chapter 3 is really sweet platforming.

I don't like the hand-to-hand combat in this game.  Mostly because you still get shot up as you're fighting by the other pirates who evidently don't give a fuck about the possibility of their friend/partner catching a bullet.

I still like it, though.  Maybe for the same reasons I like ratchet okay for what it is - compared to most of you, I haven't played that many video games, so the quirks aren't as irritating to me because I haven't seen them hundreds of times in other games.

I am unapologetic in what I do enjoy about the game, though - the pure cheese.  It takes some balls to be that self-consciously cheesy.  I'm not going to call anyone names who dislikes it, though.
