I feel that Assassin's Creed is what Tenchu should have been

Give the protagonist a grappling hook and you've got fucken Tenchu but an awesome, more polished Tenchu.

I think thats why AC is clicking with me, I've always liked the earlier Tenchu games, all the sneaking and assassinating and stuff. But instead of setting you on some linear path, the whole world is open to you and theres no weirdly dense fog obscuring your vision far off.

Someone give Ubi the rights to Tenchu and have them use this engine, GOD PLEASE  :'(

The original Tenchu on PSone is still one of my favs for that console.  Too bad the series never met its potential.

:lol

I think I'm such a fanboy for the MGS series that I willingly take the bad gameplay but yeah, the wacky jappy scenario of the MGS series + the AC engine would be absolute perfection.

Bad gameplay in MGS? lol

AC's engine is good and all, but the stealth SUCKS. JUST HOLD B AND YOU'RE INVISIBLE WOW GOOD STEALTH.

I like stealth games, where it's nothing stealth, but I'm not a big fan of stealth being thrown into any other game. Sometimes it's so intrusive and feels unnecessary.

I like what I'm reading.   :D

Tenchu Z was indeed a let down, but it wasn't a bad game and I still enjoyed the time I spent with it.  The best titles in the series are Tenchu 1 (particularly Shinobi Gaisen, the Japanese release of the American version with an added level editor), Fatal Shadows, and while I know I'm going to get a lot of "WHAT THE FUCK!? U CRAZY MAN, CRAZY!" responses, the PSP Tenchu also rocked.  Despite the draw distance issues (which were the same as the PSOne games, so whatever), the game was packed with levels, tons of playable characters, and an awesome, awesome level editor, complete with music from previous Tenchu titles.  I really hoped that the Xbox 360 game had all this stuff, but it dropped all of that in favor of custom characters (with less play styles than before, grrr) and the limited multiplayer.

If you want some ninja goodness closer to the original games, give Shinobido a try.  The series is made by Acquire, who developed Tenchu 1 and 2.  The first game came out in English in the UK; there's also a PSP version called Shinobido Homura which is more straight-forward than the console games and has a level editor included as well.
