Why do people jizz over Bioware games?

I don't get it. Is there something I don't understand here? Out of the Bioware games I've played: Baldur's Gate 2, KotOR, and Jade Empire, BG2 was the only great game out of the bunch. Bioware games are unpolished messes with (aside from BG2) average battle systems and predictable (for a western rpg) dialogue. Yet it seems every time a new Bioware game is released people give it 9/10, 10/10 whatever.

Am I missing something for not "getting" Bioware games and finding them (aside from quests) mostly boring?

Give me Fallout any day of the week over anything Bioware has made.

I guess the whole BG series built up so much good will that reviewers are still giving Bioware the benefit of the doubt.  Also, Kotor was the first great Star Wars game in a long time, which probably got the SW fanboys so wet that they ignored all the problems.

Well KOTOR made decent party balancing and a very engaging semi-realtime battle system.  probably the best star wars story although that's not saying much.  It was interesting that there was a reaction to whatever you did and how the game tied in so much about the star wars backstory.  Of course, the game was hard as balls if you chose a scoundrel on your first run but that was the only problem.

It helps that Bioware is pretty accessible and would listen/respond to critiques on their forums. They were also very good with the mod community on some of their games I got attached to.

The last Bioware game I liked was NWN. KOTOR was stale and the battles just blah. One of my biggest letdowns from last gen. When they left D&D they lost something.  I am hoping Dragon Ages eventually happens and brings back the fun.

Totally agree with your post, I hated Jade Empire, was turned off to KOTOR b/c I hate Star Wars and didn't like the battle system, but never played the BG series (even though I think they look really good and I wouldn't mind playing). Planescape and Ultima are my favorite WRPG series.
