Beer recommendation
« on: November 20, 2007, 03:58:23 PM »
I've never been a beer person, but I tried a little known Japanese beer at an Asian fusion restaurant as a recommendation from the server.  It's called Hitachino's White Ale.  I highly recommended this beer, especially to those who aren't fans of most beers.  It has hints of citrus and coriander.

Huh. I've never seen that any of the Japanese grocery stores in Seattle.

I'll agree on the pyramid.  The apricot version is not bad.

Personally I find alot of people who don't like beer are fine with guiness.  Give that a try.

Been a pretty big fan of white beers lately. Rickard's and Hoegaarden, especially.

Fat Tire is pretty good. We have some good beer in Texas if you live here. I am also a fan of guiness.

Sorry about bumping this old thread, but I finally found Hitachino beer yesterday. The Uwajimaya grocery store in Seattle had the White Ale and Red Rice Ale, so I bought one of each. For FIVE DOLLARS PER 11 OZ. BOTTLE, this stuff better be good.

Even though this might be too mass market for those of you (EricP) with distinguished taste.  Asahi.

It's super light and smooth, weirdly smooth.  You could chug it like water if you wanted to.

Asahi is ok. On the shinkansen ride back to Tokyo from Hiroshima, while my wife slept, I shared a six-pack of Asahi tall boys with a salaryman going home after a long business trip.

The stuff sold here in North America is brewed by Molson up in Canada, but it's pretty much identical to what you get in Japan.

Any beer made by Stone, Dogfish Head, or Bell's is of superior quality.

Dogfish Head makes some of the best beer on planet Earth.  (don't think you can get it on the west coast though).

The "Weekender" by Schlitz.  You get like 47 cans for around 5 bucks.  I think it comes prepackaged with a handgun and a restraining order.

Wow.  Hello old thread.  Lemme know what you think, Distant

Drewsy, I do enjoy Asahi when I go to yakitori places.  It's great with that type of food.

wow, Hitachino. Nice stuff.

Sho Nuff and a few of the Tokyo crew actually went to their premises and brewed beer a while back. The folks there guide you through the whole process. The stuff they produced was primo. Hopefully he'll see this and post his pics of the fantastic labels they made for 'em too.

If you want a lot of beer info/snobbery head over to lookoutlanding.com, yes its a baseball blog but if you search the archives and all the "series preview threads" you will find a TON of beer info.

Also anything by Rogue Breweries seems good so far. And Youngs.

i don't think i've ever had asashi, honestly.  The only beer I would drink from japan was Sapporo, but now i'm really into weird wheat beers, ipas and the like.  the hoppier the better.

Bell's Oberon and Blue Moon.

These are pretty much all I drink when I do drink. Sometimes randomly Red Stripe. But not too often.

Sam Adams Double Bock

All I've been drinking lately.  I'm almost out, it's seasonal and I'm not sure if I'll be able to get more.  Has a great taste and gives you a good buzz as it has 8.5% alcohol.

Since I drink everyday, I can't afford the expensive stuff all the time. So my beer of choice.....

It's the only beer I can drink 6-10 of daily and not wake up with a hangover or the shits. Getting thirsty just thinking about it.

this beer is super duper smooth.  unfortunately i've only had it at korean joints.  but i'm pretty sure you'd find it at your local asian grocery or restaurant.

I like that too on a summer's day.

But Trappiste Rochefort 12° is my favourite. Such a full and rich taste.

Yep yep, did our own brewing at Hitachino. Here's the shipment we got:

And here are the custom labels we made (I'm sure the guys at Hitachino were very amused):

I must be missing something. It tastes like sparkling raspberry champaign... so where's the beer part? That sounds like a description of cider more than a beer.
