96% on RT, with 128 fresh and only 6 rotten.  The little review blurbs have me bubbling.

Who is seeing it tonight?

I watched this tonight. Amazing movie up until the very end. ENDING SPOILERS:

spoiler (click to show/hide)
I have no opinion on the ending only because I had no clue what he was saying with his texan accent. I needed subtitles or something. None of my friends or me knew what the hell he was saying at the very end and we're from fucking Texas. I realize the ending ties up the entire movie, so it's frustrating not to be able to understand him.

I'll probably check out the book just to read his final monologue.
[close]

And Javier Bardem pretty much locked up best actor/supporting actor.

I blame myself for having it spoiled. Shouldn't have been in the thread. It's not like I was in a completely different thread and someone was talking about a completely different movie and then put a spoiler for No Country in spoiler tags with no indication a.k.a. pulling a Solo.

For Christs sake, give it up.

I spoiled The Departed somehow by putting stuff in spoiler tags. I spoiled Bioshock by talking about its ending in a thread call "games that change mechanics at the very end", which implies spoilers. I swear, some of you internet folk are way too uptight about this shit. Dont want to get spoiled? Get the fuck off the internet, for starters.

LOOOOOL. Enchanted was a ton of fun but No Country is one of the best movies of the year there is no comparison. Why can't I enjoy fun kiddie movies and still worship the "great" movies that come out? loool. It's not like I would put enchanted on a top 10 list at the end of the year.

I still say Enchanted is a fun nostalgia filled movie, it feels like a classic 50's disney movie. But I wouldn't put it alongside No Country, Death Proof, etc...as a favorite of the year. It's apples and oranges.

Does he actually use quotation marks when people speak? That annoyed me to death in the book of his I read for AP Lit. Also the untranslated Spanish.

I'm guessing you read Blood Meridian. Unless he has another book with untranslated Spanish in it.

All of the border trilogy features Spanish too (Cities of the Plains, All The Pretty Horses, The Crossing), and no, he never uses quotation marks.  It's a stylistic decision.

I read All the Pretty Horses. Which wasn't bad (The untranslated Spanish I can actually deal with because it sort of adds to the book) but the lack of quotations is annoying.

It was definitely a bit annoying and disconcerting at first, but I got used to it. I like the untranslated Spanish, but I know a bit of the language.

I should've guessed the Border trilogy used Spanish too.  :duh

Luckily the first book I read of his was Blood Meridian which has almost no dialogue so I didn't really notice it.  On something a bit more dialogue-heavy like No Country For Old Men, I can see how it could get a little annoying.

Major drug deal gone bad, one party sends out a Psychopath to get their money back, he goes on a rampage which leads to fucken brutal death scenes. It rocks but its one of those movies that ends rather abruptly (so don't say I didn't warn you!). But the way the movie ends is ok with me, I can't see there being any other way.

I actually dig the lack of quotations.  It's reminiscent of reading a history book or something, like you're not reading direct quotes, but in a biblical sense, this is what was said.  Or something like that.    It's one of those things you have to be a really good writer to get away with, and he does it well.

I really wonder if this will be the year Coen brothers get their oscars. There Will Be Blood and Atonment aren't getting enough praise and hype to pull it off. The only film getting enough praise to upset No Country is Juno but I can't honestly see the oscars giving best picture to a comedy...

The only award it has a chance is best supporting actor for Affleck. Best picture as of right now is a battle between No Country and Juno. Though that can change as Brokeback Mountain and Dreamgirls can tell you.

The Oscars were confirmed shit after last year when Children of Men wasn't nominated for any of the big awards and didn't win cinematography.

And Cheebs, Juno has no shot.  It's this years LMS, a feel good quirky indie flick that will win some categories (Ellen Page maybe, dunno) but serve no purpose in being in the best picture category.
