Have you seen some of those butch lesbians? If any city needed gender on their ID cards, it would be them.

How does it make no sense, exactly? It's no secret that SF is a haven for TG folks.

You are missing the whole point of this.  Sometimes a picture only confuses the issue more (see transgenders - the main reason this was done).

The whole point of this decision was because of the gender "confusion" in SF.

So we should cater to transgenders?  Because they are what % of the people in San Francisco?  Hey I am ready to take a chainsaw to that bastard child of a city and send it floating down to Venezuela to be with their beloved (yea beloved) Hugo Chavez. See what those hippies think when he comes in and steals their land and cuts down all the trees so they have on place to live.

M or F - Is it that freaking hard Morrissey?

Read article again.  See where it helps "illegals" to get services rendered, just having such an ID card to begin with.  Then to point their finger at, well, any shape or form of a conservative value. Remove the concept of M/F all together.

We are "?" hear us roar.

So your problem is with the ID card to begin with, not gender not being on the card?  That's a valid argument, but citing this as what makes not listing gender a valid issue again, does not logically follow.  What does listing gender have to do with illegal immigrants abusing the system?

Again, I don't see your point.  Why is listing gender important when we have names?  Why is listing gender important when it might possibly create confusion, and with that confusion, actual problems?

Your problem with this is simply that it caters to a minority you don't like.  While yes, it does help a minority, it also doesn't hurt anyone.  It only makes the lives of some people easier.  Unfortunately, you don't like those people.

it would never be important to have gender on an ID card.  what, a transgender is going to be stopped from going in a bathroom because people aren't sure so they have to show their card?

it cites examples of banks their employer listing them as a male and the bank listing them as a female which makes it harder to deposit pay checks.

The only dissent in the article is

Quote
Peter Sprigg of the Family Research Council, a conservative advocacy group, says he's concerned that use of the cards will encourage the idea that gender identity is flexible.

"It gives support to the philosophy that says gender is a social construct," Sprigg says. "I think that philosophy is harmful to society at large."

Basically, a stupid christian thinks that doing this supports the philosophy that gender is a social construct--a philosophy and worldview that DOESN'T ACTUALLY EXIST.

I am for breaking solid gender roles, but I'm not just going to throw all rules out the window. I don't think they include gender on ID cards to 'label' people, it is likely for identification and emergency situations.

This is also a bunch of political correct bullshit, and I am all against that. We had a bill to remove ethnicity from forms here in California, for people who choose not to be labeled or who don't want to be. It got shot down. Why? Doctors publicly went against it. Shouldn't doctors be against removing another piece of vital info? Guess not!

It is all politics and self-righteous BS. California does things to appear progressive and liberal, but it doesn't understand what it is doing half the time.

1) He is a stupid Christian.  Look up the FRC.  He wouldn't work for them if he weren't a Christian.

2) I'm not a liberal in most respects.

3) See, look at etiolate take a logical perspective to argue his viewpoint.  That's how smart people do things.

In conclusion, California is juvenile in its need for approval.

I dunno, I think California's desire to be progressive is a positive trait, although such a trait is doomed to misfire a good percentage of the time.  That said, I don't live in CA, so I really can't fairly judge the trait.

who's approval etiolate?  I honestly don't see what gender being on the identity card would help.  maybe at hospitals for newborn babies it would make sense but it's not like it's going to be important for anybody once you're an adult.

Yes, that is sort of what I mean.  It is a good trait, but I mean it is juvenile in that it is like a kid that means well but doesn't always think things through. I just wish it had this attitude when it came to doing the same thing with race, especially since one's race is much more a social construct than one's sex.

Well the argument with removing race, was that race was important for medical reasons and most importantly for medical research. Basically when something happens, the info is a way to tally down who it happens to. Like, how would you measure discrimination if you can not measure who is who to locate the discriminated? The counter-argument was that removing the racial info removed the opportunity for those to discriminate against certain groups by just noting their info. That by removing the info completely, you remove the issue. Which is similar to not wanting to be identified by gender if you are trans-gendered, and having to show you were born male when you're in a dress basically could lead to discrimination. The same as showing you are considered hispanic when you are very light colored could lead to discrimination.

As for medical reasons, I wouldn't be surprised if there are medical reasons to know if one is male or female, depending on hormonal and chemical reactions that may occur with urgent medical treatment. Especially if you are on hormone pills with side effects. BUT I am just guessing these things.

right, but I'm saying that shouldn't be something you need to have on a card you carry with you.

btw, when you're born, they record what race (and of course gender) you are so that is on record in some way if doctors were doing research on patterns.

I think they should make cards without eye color. It's too confusing for alot of people. What if my eye color is green but I wear blue contacts? What if I had lasik surgery and no longer need contacts. What if one of my eyes is green and one of my eyes is blue. And we should also stop discriminating people based on weight. There has been alot of study to suggest that weight comes from your genes and its not far to harass people over their weight illness. What if I am a really strong guy that has alot of muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat btw, so it could be really deceiving.

"The card really makes eye color and weight a non-issue," Also exports have said that "It gives support to the philosophy that says eye color and weight are a social construct"
