I don't know what my favorite game this year is.

Between Blue Dragon, Persona 3, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Assassin's Creed, Virtua Fighter 5 (I STILL haven't played this on single player mode)...I don't know what to think, and I haven't even put much time into Mario yet (what I HAVE played is nothing short of brilliance). Since I don't have a good pc that can play them, I haven't even managed to play The Witcher or NWN2's add on, both of which are supposed to be amazing.

I think most of you know of me as a big skeptic, and I really am. I honestly think this is the FIRST time in the longest that almost every single fucking overly hyped game has actually lived up to the hype. This year has been insane.

What's your favorite game this year so far. After the release of Mass Effect, this year is basically over as far as big releases go.

One thing is for certain: 2007 = year of the rpg, and it's also the best gaming year since 2001. Personally, I preferred 2004 to 2001, but I won't deny 2001's impact. 2007 has raised the goddamn bar. If GTAIV came out this year...holy shit.

Persona 3 = jappa wackiness
Blue Dragon = traditional jrpg goodness, the best traditional high budget jrpg in ages
Bioshock = good ol' first person rpg goodness
NWN2 expansion = fegs at gaf say it's the best crpg since BG2
The Witcher = looks like an extremely well made crpg
Mass Effect = action rpg supreme

You've got great rpgs from all fronts: wacky jappy, traditonal jrpg, action rpg, first person rpg, computer rpg...the works. If that isn't year of the rpg, what is?

I wasn't a last gen advocate. It's just I couldn't concentrate on my next gen games when I was playing Persona 3. Too time consuming lol After I beat that, I started to dedicate to next gen

Didn't God of War 2 come out this year? Either that, Mario Galaxy, or the Orange Box are my game of the years.

Bioshock is quite good too, but I haven't felt the need to replay it honestly.

Haven't played Mass Effect or Assassins Creed yet either.

Oh fuck Rock Band's good too.

it's been ages since a nintendo game has had any business topping a goty poll, but galaxy is the clear choice. i guess everything will be restored to its normal order when wii fit outsells galaxy by a factor of 10, and nintendo abandons the last vestiges of their former coolness. galaxy was a much better sendoff than twilight princess.

probably mario galaxy, I didn't expect it to be anywhere near this good. I haven't played a lot of other games on that list but I doubt they'd be as surprising as this game.

well the only reason I played SMG is because I got it as a birthday present from a friend, not because I have a wii. honestly, if I didn't know that it's waggle was NOT TACKED ON TO EVERYTHING IN A HORRIBLE WAY, I wouldn't have opened it and would have traded it in or re-gifted it.

Mario Galaxy, of course. Just beat the game, have 15 more stars to get... Only complaints are a few tacked on waggle minigames, and an overuse of the whole "have the Bullet Bills run into glass cases" puzzles.

pretty much. if you're a mario fan, it's omg goty worthy. but if you're not big on platforming or mario and its concepts, it's just a "great" game imo.

mass effect on the other hand, the shit continues to blow me away. i haven't felt that from any other game aside from bioshock this year. so i chose mass effect.

I'm not a big platformer fan at all but I'm addicted to galaxy. I mean, if any game is good at it's genre than it'll keep me hooked and I definitely expected SMG to be AAA quality (even though sunshine wasn't) but the amount of original ideas and effort that went into the level design is just mindblowing. I haven't felt that way about a game in a LONG time.

It's not worth getting a wii for if there aren't a few other must-have's on your list but it's easily the best game this year imo.

I voted Bioshock. Its heads and shoulders above everything else Ive played this year. The caveat is that I havent touched Mass Effect, Crysis, or Mario yet.

yeah Halo doesnt belong on the list, its still pretty darn similar to halo 1 and 2, not really fresh or exciting. Still a good game but 2007 was/is a freaking sweet year

I really like what I've played of CoD4, but Halo 3's multiplayer for both campaign and versus, plus being able to play with friends on the same console online, and its larger variety of maps, play modes, and vehicles keeps it on top.

All the options and features in Halo 3 would be cool if the core gameplay weren't exactly the same. It's just old hat at this point. It's still fun in small doses, but meh. Maybe if any of my friends liked it, I'd be more enthusiastic about it.

But it should probably be up there, since Gears was last year.
