The Killers: Liked Hot Fuss but didnt like Sam's Town?

Their latest release, Sawdust, is a B-Sides/Remixes/Live album that in my opinion carries the spirit of Hot Fuss. While IN MY OPINION Sam's Town was a great album, when listening to Sawdust I definately get the same awesome 'new and interesting' vibe as Hot Fuss.

There are 17 tracks in all, I think 5-6 of those are remixes, three live recordings, and the rest im not totally familiar with. Included in the remixes is the very good remix of Mr Brightside which was released as a single a few months back.

SO, if you can hold back the sneers over their lyrics that came from the 80s, give this CD a whirl.

Oooo I'll take your word for it because Hot Fuss is one of my favorite albums of the decade so far while Sam's Town was forgettable.

Sawdust has a lot more Hot Fuss in it, plus the remixes of the songs from Sam's Town feel more Hot Fuss too, believe it or not lol.

Agreed, its not catchy like Hot Fuss. But truth be told not every CD needs to have catchy music. Some of my favorite cds were 'growers' - Oh Inverted World (the shins) and When the Pawn (Fiona Apple).

Forgotton: I can see where youre coming from there. The lyrics to The Killers music isn't especially deep and probably arent better served in 'grower' albums, but I have a softspot for the band's delivery of cheesy lyrics and their 80s instrumentation. I think im one of the few people who likes all of their stuff.

That being said i think Wincing The Night Away (The Shins - and maybe their best album) > Sam's Town when it comes to albums that year.

Well Wincing The Night Away as an album is very different sounding from Chutes Too Narrow, and if anything more similar to Oh Inverted World simply because Oh Inverted World tried less to be catchy (Chutes Too Narrow) and instead followed a single theme the entire album. Wincing the Night Away as an album does that same thing, and for that reason the songs can sound 'samey' but they do so because that was the intended purpose all along.

Chutes Too Narrow is still probably the most approachable of The Shins efforts, but I think between Inverted and Wincing I would prefer Wincing since I found the instrumentation a bit more clever and the lyrics a little easier to understand on the first pass.
