We need 30 Rock back before Tracy kills his career!

If the writer’s strike doesn’t end soon, you might want to light a candle for Tracy Morgan of “30 Rock.” All seven of Morgan’s Thanksgiving week shows at comedy club Caroline’s on Broadway sold out, but unfortunately ticket sales and positive reviews aren’t mutually exclusive. Morgan still had more than 30 minutes left in his 90-minute Nov. 24 show when audience members began walking out.

According to a Caroline’s employee, dissatisfaction with the “Saturday Night Live” alum was spreading like staph as the week progressed. “Lots of people have been walking out early. I think people expected Tracy Jordan, not Morgan,” the employee said, referring to Morgan’s “30 Rock” persona. The main difference between the two? Jordan is funny while Morgan just thinks he is.

At its best, the routine was stale and slightly amusing. At its worst, it was vulgar and awkward (think more Marilyn Manson than Larry David here). I hope Morgan did this on purpose, as if to say, “This is what I will subject the public to if the studios and writers can’t come to an agreement.” Speaking as one of the dozens and dozens of “30 Rock” fans out there, I hope that’s the case, and production on “30 Rock” resumes as quickly as possible, at least for Morgan’s sake.

I saw Tracy Morgan earlier this year and he wasn't that funny. He likes to repeat things a LOT that weren't funny to begin with.

I love when tourists go see a television personality and expect them to be the same guy on stage.

Idiots.

Don't know who that was directed towards, but I'd like to just say that if I spend $50 a seat to laugh at a comedian, I certainly fucking hope he brings "teh funnie" as they say.

It's true and unfortunately he isn't doing it on purpose to end the writers strike.  I rented one of his stand-up DVD's once and after about 5 min (if that) it got shut off.  All he did was say "yo i don't know bout y'all but i'm gonna get some pussy tonight.  oh fuck.  that's what's up.  fuck fuck fuck"  All he was doing was cursing a lot and saying he was gonna get some pussy that /= comedy.  He was way funnier here:

Forget 30 Rock. Supposedly because of this stupid strike they won't even finish out the last season of Scrubs :'( I mean come on, the show has obviously dropped several levels in quality, but I don't want it to end like this.

Anyone know what the chances would be of the subsequent unreleased episodes to be put out on DVD?

No surprise. Morgan is annoying but when he is speaking dialouge written by Tina Fey he is hilarious.

what? He was hilarious when he was on SNL and on 30 Rock but annoying other wise. Both times the head writer was Tina Fey!

No, I was being more general. I have seen people complain about Kramer (Michael Richards), Brad Garrett (Everybody loves Raymond), Kevin James or guys like that. They buy a ticket strictly because they are funny on a sitcom and expect that type of humor in their act.

The only comedian this actually works with is Jerry Seinfeld since his sitcom character and standup act are basically the same persona.

Kevin James's standup act is pretty close to his character on King of Queens from what I've seen.

I don't think the MSNBC copy writer understands that phrase.

Yea, James was a bad example. Many comedians get their sitcoms BASED on their standup (Seinfeld, Drew Carey, Richard Jeni, etc), James falls into that category too.  Usually no one goes out on the road after they've acheived fame on a sitcom.

I was going to use Saget .. but he is actually funnier than he portrays on his sitcoms.

Um, Tracy Morgan is like the number one reason I put off watching 30 Rock for so long, despite people telling me how awesome it was.  He was one of the things of modern SNL that I hated most.  It's the awesome writing that makes him funny on 30 Rock.  And his timing and voice.  You have to have all three to have the funny.
