Comments? There's no denying that the south is running rap right now; they dominate the airwaves, as well as TV. But that does not mean they're not "ruining" rap. Personally, I find most mainstream southern rap to be utterly terrible, simplistic, and laughable. There's absolutely no originality in that region anymore, which is sad considering such greats as Outkast and Scarface come from the south. The south's only emphasis is on replication. So if someone has a bullhorn in their song, I gotta have a bullhorn. If someone's name starts with "Young" or "Lil", my name has to start like that too. etc. And despite their dominance of the airwaves, most of these albums are flopping. Why? The public knows the albums are trash and contain a couple songs. Outside of TI, not one rap artist has gone platinum this year. Some of their albums are doing great, but most are falling flat just like Young Dro's album.

But it's not like the east is so much better either. But, I'd rather suffer through a 50 Cent song than any shit-tastic laffy taffy/snap your fingas jingle. At least 50 has Dr Dre beats :lol

That's from the south Himu! :lol

G-Unit sucks, as does Cash Money. Mainstream rap sucks in general, yes. But this southern shit pisses me off more. The simplicity of it is truly astounding.

Fuck, you're right. Ok I take that back :lol

That song is far worse than Laffy Taffy lol. But anyway, it's sad that most rappers who don't want to rap about clubs or stupid "dances" can't sell records. No other music genre has this problem. With rock, even far out bands like Radiohead and Tool can still get success. Not with rap. Lupe's album bombed, Rhymefest's bombed, The Roots bombed, and Nas will most like bomb. Jay Z is laughing to the bank

This quote from Nas right here:

Quote
"Let's be real. DJs play a big responsibility of what hip-hop is doing. … At the end of the day, it's up to us to control and to own hip-hop. DJs need to challenge us rappers. They got so much power, they need to challenge us. We don't challenge DJs by making crazy shit enough.

"When I say 'hip-hop is dead,' basically America is dead. There is no political voice. Music is dead. B2K is not New Edition. Chris Brown is great, I love Chris Brown, we need that, but Bobby Brown sticks in my heart. Our way of thinking is dead, our commerce is dead. Everything in this society has been done. It's like a slingshot, where you throw the muthafucka back and it starts losing speed and is about to fall down. That's where we are as a country.

"I don't wanna lose nobody with this, but what I mean by 'hip-hop is dead' is we're at a vulnerable state. If we don't change, we gonna disappear like Rome. Let's break it down to a smaller situation. Hip-hop is Rome for the 'hood. I think hip-hop could help rebuild America, once hip-hoppers own hip-hop. … We are our own politicians, our own government, we have something to say. We're warriors. Soldiers."

Mainstream Hip Hop is atrocious and I'd like to punch anyone who listens to it in the face.  I was dating a girl a while back that listened to that laffy taffy song, and I broke up with her because of it.  She was a sweet girl.  She could suck a helluva dick too.  But we were riding in the car together on our way to The Engine Room downtown and that fucking laffy taffy song came on 104.1 KRBE and she was singing along with it.  The whole time the song was playing, I kept looking at her through the corner of my eye and I wanted to punch her in the side of the face.  I never looked at her the same after that.  I broke up with her a few days later.  She works at the office of my apartment complex and I see her when I pay my rent.  I still want to punch her when I see her.  That's how much this trash pisses me off.  I usually let people have their own opinions about music, because I like some pretty out there music.  But the shit that's on the airwaves now is blatant crap.  It doesn't try to be anything more and doesn't pretend to be and people buy into it like distinguished mentally-challenged fellows.  I'm so fucking confused.

I realized that People Under the Stairs sampled the organ from a certain older movie with Babs Striesand in it, and that was just one of the layers of the song! Thes One, baby.  :burgerking

Anyways, Nas sucks. Illmatic was a classic, his other albums are mostly bullshit. I'd rather listen to MF DOOM.

edit: my spelling is also illmatic

It's a club downtown.  A rock venue.  :pimp

Why are you surprised?  :lol

I wanted to really bad.

I should have thought about this more.  She can't sing stupid songs with a dick in her mouth.

So blame the producers.  These rappers aren't doing anything.  They need the producers to survive.

Off topic but an idiot childhood friend of mine bragged that he got away with stealing song samples for his "rap career" because the record companies weren't willing to pay $10,000 to sue him over $100 of records.

The dumb shit.

No one is blaming the rappers or producers for that matter.  They make this shit because it sells.  I blame the people that buy it.  If I could I could make millions showing my ugly ass grill and yelling "shake that laffy taffy" I would too.

It's my opinion that rap is stuck in the equivalent of Rock's 80's.  They'll grow out of it.

Hopefully.  There's good rap but it's just not marketed as much.

I blame women. If you look at history most women do not have a true appreciation for music and like only music that makes them dance. Look at the majority of the fans of these fegs. They're women.
