Why am I not surprised that a Bob Dylan fan has horrible taste
Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid > Citizen Kane
But really though, I
totally understand the influence it had on modern films. Orson Welles did a fucking awesome job for what he had to work with, and yeah, the lighting and everything like that is pretty damn good.
What I didn't like about the movie were the actors surrounding Welles. They were pretty shit, like most actors of that time. Also, I don't think the later parts of the movie were all that incredibly interesting–his marriage with Susan and Xanadu's prison-like effect on her were snore-inducing. His interactions with Bernstein and Leland with the
Inquirer were the best and most memorable parts. The whole portion when he's around 25 is all pretty great.
I think my favorite scene was his speech for his campaign. Welles has an awesome and powerful voice for that kind of thing, and the angles and lighting for it were incredible. Good shit all around.
Oh, and the beginning fade-ins to Xanadu, where the window light is always in the same place on the screen. Pretty rad for its time.
