 :'(

i can at least take the sensor bar down when i'm not using the wii. those time crisis shits are super fussy. took me like 10 minutes to set them up without cables sticking out all over the place

it uses TWO led beacon things. with lots of wiring. and these absurd weighted belts that keep them in place.

is time crisis 4 worth the aesthetic humiliation? (seriously. with a three-year-old around, attachments like that are a no-no.)

Why didn't they make Time Crisis 4 work like the old shooters?  Is the new implementation supposed to be more accurate?

i just got it in the mail -- going to play in a minute. old-style lightguns only work with crts. arcade machines have apparently been using wii-style infared camera setups for ages, so i assume they'll work ok

Not that this has anything to do with anything, but Ghost Squad on the Wii boasts accuracy as good as any previous Guncon shooter has had and cost half as much.
I'm hoping Namco bites the bullet and ports Time Crisis 4 (and especially Point Blank) to the Wii so I can play it without shelling out $80 and owning a gun that won't be supported by any other game in the future.

Oh, and drohne, one question.  I know this is a longshot, but can you use the Guncon 3 on PS2 and PS1 Guncon games?  That would sure make me feel a lot less guilty about buying TC4 if that were the case.

It doesn't have Rock Band, though.

well, the gun works perfectly. and the game itself is lots of fun as long as it sticks to the time crisis routine of SHOOTING GUYS QUICKLY. the bugs are kind of lame, as is that one bit where you're manning a turret on a helicopter. the weapon switching is handled better than it was in time crisis 3, with specific moments that call for specific guns.

edit: i forgot to mention -- the framerate chugs sometimes. in a straight port of a ps2 game. wtf namco

hyperzone: i haven't heard that it works with old guncon games, and i can't imagine why it would -- the guncon 3 works very differently, and the software would have to be written to handle it. but i'm hoping namco releases a bunch of time crisis and point blank stuff on psn.

i'm curious about ghost squad...if it's got a good calibration screen, it should work about as well as tc4. and the game has always looked cool. the wii zapper looks like a piece of shit, but i've seen some decent looking gun shells on amazon

it's possible i've lost my mind, but i kind of love the fps mode. i expected it to play something like a wii game, but it's actually a full dual-analog fps with the addition of lightgun shooting. it's like playing two games at the same time -- a bad fps and a bad lightgun game. and somehow the result is awesome. strafing around while lining up lightgun shots is loads of fun. i seriously prefer this to cod4's campaign lolz :(

Well, I had to futz with the calibration a bit, but after a few tries I'm able to get aim and accuracy as good as any other light gun I've ever used(which includes my beloved Guncon2), and the zapper is mechanically sound, its certainly not my ideal gun, but its certainly usable.  As I've gotten used to it I'm even kinda liking it.  You even get rumble and sound effects as a side effect of the Wiimote it houses, I hesitate to say it, but the Zapper may not be so terrible.
Ghost Squad is pretty ace in of itself, with a ULTRA HIGH level of replayability for each of the three stages, and lots of unlockable weapons and extras and such.  Its a really solid short-session game.  And it just feels so damn good to pop off some single shot headshots and switch to burst-fire to clean up the rest of the goons on the screen.  Great fun.

CRTs.

Old school light guns worked in conjunctions with CRTs.  LCDs, Plasmas, and DLTVs are not compatible with old school light guns as a result.  The LEDs type set up like TC4 are used now since they support all types of displays.

If my time with the arcade version is any indication, I'd say yes, sexy.  :-*

Out of curiosity what exactly makes old-school shooters incompatible with HDTVS?

Think of the leds as christmas decorations. Festive!

And, like Christmas decorations, the wii can safely be packed away and forgotten for (at least!) the next eleven months before Nintendo offers something compelling for adult gamers to play on it.

anyone over the age of 21 doesn't play smash borthers unless they are developmentally stunted. why they don't pack in a box of cocoa puffs, a carton of apple juice, and a dvd of pixar's "Cars" (so they can watch it compulsively every night for a year) into a lunchbox and call it a collector's edition is beyond me.

I'm sorry that you lack any sort of human contact. My friends and I played the shit out Smash "Borthers", and Power Stone, and Poy Poy, and Goldeneye, and Mario Kart, and Mario Party, etc. etc. And only one of us was under 21 at that time.

I hope that helps to clear things up for you so that these things don't stay beyond you forever*.

Today I was Christmas shopping at the mall, and walked into Gamestop... and there was a big mass of people at the door, everything from soccer moms, to middle-aged adults, to folks my age, a mixture of races too, all lined up... I asked one of them (a MILF of course), "what's going on here, did the store get Wiis in?" and she was like "yeah!" all excited. I bet most of them will be buying Brawl as well when that comes out.
