Things to do in Pheonix Az?
« on: November 27, 2007, 08:23:05 AM »
I have a trip there next week and I have no idea what the hell I'm going to do during my off hours.

I need some recommendations of places to see/things to do. I wanted to visit Chase Stadium but it seems like a hefty walk from my hotel. Anyone else wanna recommend something fun?

Where are you staying? Downtown, Biltmore area, Tempe, Scottsdale, Glendale (yuck)?

If you're younger and into a club/college atmosphere, go to Mill Ave in Tempe. If you're more of a straight up club/bar scene, check out Oldtown Scottsdale. Both of those places are also nice to visit during the day. The Biltmore area has some things to do, mainly they revolve around the Biltmore Resort and the mall in the area. Downtown has a couple of theatres, the Herd Museum (largest collection of Native Art in the country I think), Phoenix Art museum, for nightlife near downtown check out Alice Cooperstown or the Roosevelt area (it's along Roosevelt (of course) just north of downtown). Don't know what it will be like this time of year but you could always check out Papago Park and see if the zoo or Botanical Garden (Sonoran Desert is one of the most biologically unique regions of the world) are open.

Unfortunately the light rail system isn't open just yet so I'm not so sure if you'll be able to get around the city to see most of these things. The buses are pretty alright though  :-\

*sigh* I'm in class and this all I can think of off the top of my head.

The really happening parts of town are Old Town Scottsdale (downtown) and Mill Ave area of Tempe. After that It would be the Roosevelt area of Phoenix.

Also, don't go too far south or west of Downtown. You would think the state capital area would be nice, and it is during the day, but as soon as night falls you will want to get the fuck out of there.

Also, if they are in town and you can afford to pay for scalped tickets (perfectly legal there) a Suns game would be a lot of fun.

I still can't believe you lived in Mesa for more than a day. It's like me saying Washington suck based on my living in Spokane. Mesa=<Spokane.

I went to Tombstone the last time I was in Phoenix.  I think the drive was about 90mins.  It's worth a look if you liked the movies about it.

What's Spokane like?

I'm probably not the best person to ask since I pretty much am "pulling a MAF" here and don't really do anything but school. I can tell you that despite it's size the downtown area is pretty busy and riverfront park is beautiful. There are much more young people here than I thought there would be, however, much of the city is flat out industrial wasteland and it's hard to walk around downtown at night without having an opportunity to buy Meth, Crack, or other assorted drugs. Plus it's really damn cold and cloudy right now.

I hear there are a lot of mountain recreation areas nearby, Skiing, Mountain biking, hiking, camping. Lake Coer D'Alene is only about 20 miles away in Idaho.

That's all I really know. I can't wait to get back to Phoenix to be honest.

And the drinking never stops, Spokane brings out the alcoholic in you.

Drive to Fairville, California.

Sorry, but I'm slightly high, meaning no good jokes.
