Re: Videogame reviewer fired for criticizing high-profile Murder-Sim
Dear Mr. Thompson,
As a concerned, Christian parent of two young children, I appreciate your work in attempting to curb the horrific violence present in so many of today's videogames. This so called "entertainment" is seriously sick and disturbing, and the deplorable tactics by the producers of these games to try to illegally reach out to under-age children is just disgusting. That's why I felt that I should contact you about one of their most recent, most heinous ploys. Recently Gamespot.com (a popular gaming website read by many young people) has been heavily promoting a game called "KANE & LYNCH". This is game which promotes and glorifies pointless violence in a graphic and stomach-churning manner, more-so than any game that I've ever seen in my life. The only thing that this can be called is a "Murder Simulator" as the point of the game is nothing but mowing down row after row of innocent people, including women and children. Because of the money that Eidos (publisher of Kane & Lynch) had spent on advertising at Gamespot, the executives at Gamespot required their reviewer to give it at least a 9.0 (out of 10) to make the game seem more appealing to young people. However, bold Videogame critic JEFF GERSTMANN (who had worked at Gamespot for 10 years and had no doubt seem many violent games in his tenure) was so sickened by the extreme violence that he saw, that he refused to cave into demands from his evil bosses and gave the game a much lower score instead, and warned parents that the game contained an excessive amount of foul language and violence and was not appropriate at all for children (or quite frankly anyone). Because of this he was fired from his job, and been blackballed in the videogame community. This is based on CONFIRMED information that has been reported on by multiple sources (
http://valleywag.com/tech/jeff-gerstmann/gamespot-editor--on-fired-reviewer-328775.php; http://www.primotechnology.com/2007/11/29/gamespots-gerstmann-fired-allegedly-over-kane-and-lynch-review/; http://www.joystiq.com/2007/11/30/rumor-gamespots-editorial-director-fired-over-kane-and-lynch-rev/) , despite Gamespot and Eidos's attempts to sweep this under a rug by paying off news outlets to convince them not to run this story. This is the most horrifying thing that I've ever heard (except the Holocaust). This man lost his job for speaking out against a violent videogame, and all because his bosses had been paid off by the videogame industry who wants yound children to buy their disgusting products. How can this be allowed to happen? Is there anything you can do to help Mr. Jeff Gerstmann, who got fired just for telling the truth? I sickens me to think that Gamespot and Eidos would be allowed to get away with this travesty.
Sincerely,
Joseph Molotovio
