I ignore all factual statements people make irl. And I also ignore all alcohol related boasting. People can not get the facts straight and they can't get straight how much alcohol they  consumed. For instance just in the last week a male coworker claimed that Newfoundland had six females for every male (it is about 50/50) while another claimed to have drank 56 beers during a 12 hour period. I called the first coworker on the bullshit since the claim was easily falsifiable while I merely rolled my eyes fifty times at the second coworker. 

Austalia has less than one man per woman. That doesn't sound like a female shortage, and it is certainly a better ratio than China and many Middle Eastern countries.

I'm curious, do different regions of Australia have different accents? The reason I ask is because I've noticed many women on TV that were born/raised in Australia don't have much of what I know is an Australian accent, though it could be them being forced to try to make an American accent.

Australia doesn't have different regional accents, but there are some variations in I guess the strength of the accent. Here's what wiki says about it:

Most linguists consider there to be three main varieties of Australian English: Broad, General and Cultivated Australian English. They are part of a continuum, reflecting variations in accent. They often, but not always, reflect the social class or educational background of the speaker.

South Australians do have a different accent; it sounds more Kiwi and English. Though I guess that could be more to having a more 'cultivated accent' since they were not convicts and all.
