If this isn't a sign that Nintendo is out of touch with the times, I don't know what is.

I always thought it was completely ridiculous that Nintendo sold their Gamecube component cables online only.  Well, you'd think 5 f'ing years later Nintendo would have realized A LOT of people own HDTV's by now, but apparantly they didn't get the memo.

I am seriously so annoyed by an announcement like this, that i'd love to personally bitch slap the people who made such a decision.  It's just so out of touch that words cannot properly put it into perspective.

Also keep in mind that for any HDTV owner who wants to play their Wii in progressive scan, they are gonna be paying $250 for the system, and another $30 for the component cables.  That is $280 for the Wii, and a core 360 system goes for $300.  ::)

Nintendo needs to desperately wake up and smell the world of today.  HDTV's are becoming very common now.  I would say nearly half my family and friends now own HDTV's, and we're not all rich people.  I heard an estimate recently that by the end of this year, 20% of U.S homes would have an HDTV.  Then you have to keep in mind that the demographic who is likely to buy a Wii, has a much higher likelyhood of already owning an HDTV as well.  So it makes this decision by Nintendo all the more bizarre, and just plain stupid.  So, if I decide to buy one on launch day now, i'll likely be waiting a few days before I actually get to properly hook this system up to my HDTV.  ::) :(

Edit:  I just realized another example of why this decision is just hilarious on so many levels.  Nintendo has already publically stated that ALL of their first party Wii games will offer a widescreen mode.  By making such a decision they are clearly showing that they realize widescreen tvs are very common these days.  Well guess what?  95% of the widescreen tvs in this world are HDTVs.  So this makes them look even more stupid in that they realized they should develop all their Wii games with a widescreen mode, but then they make the freaking cable used to display the system properly on an HDTV annoying difficult to buy.  Brilliant, just brilliant.  :lol

No damage to control, they will show up in stores just like the wifi dongle.

Oh yeah, well they never sold the Gamecube component cables in stores.  NEVER.  They're so freaking hard to find that people were paying double the retail on Ebay just to get them.  Like I said, this is a moronic decision through and through.  It's almost like the company is basically telling the techy consumer of today to fuck off.  It's just incompetance in it's purest form.  It's out of touch people making decisions based on whatever they hell they think they know.  Everyone is wrong, and they're right.  They know best.

Hey, our competition sees fit to package component cables with EVERY SYSTEM SOLD, but we could at least make them available in stores.  No, no.  That would be too simple.  We'll just offer them online, and if people are smart enough to go to a website and find this information out, then we'll sell them the cable they want.  Of course then we can tell everyone how smart we were to sell the cable online, because so few people will buy the cable when it's so freaking hard to find.  Logic is so much fun.  ::)

Except if it's like the Gamecube, 3rd parties can't make them because Nintendo puts a proprietary chip in them.

In other words: shut the fuck up.
