"TEMP! TEMP! TEMP! T-RYAN! RYAN! RYAN!"

Last night's Office was a return to form.

My friend Rick and I are big Scrubs fans (when the hell is that returning?), and we have a saying when the episodes get a little too zany or removed from reality - "That episode was a little too Scrubby."  It means that a show is trying too hard to amplify every quality people like about it, to the Nth degree - like when there are too many "daydream" sequences in Scrubs.  The last coupld of Office episodes have been a little too Officey, but last night's was a great blend of wacky + awkward + sentimental.  I really liked how, at the end of it all, Dwight's shown to be a really competent salesman, and a partially decent human being.  That's the strong suit of The Office.

Plus, that chick in Jim's new office is HAWT.  When she does that "biting her lip" thing my pants get tight.

The show is best when it mixes the realistic romance story with the grounded comedy. You don't watch The Office just for the laughs and for the comedy. But I suspect everyone who watches it knows that.

The Pam/Jim stuff at the end of the episode was perfect. THAT is what "The Office" is about. You tune in for Steve Carrel but you stay for Jim & Pam.

OMG she's hot. And I'm confused...Jim doesn't work in the same office as Pam?

Overall it was a "stupid funny" kind of episode

They're keeping the thread going, but just barely.  It was about a two minute scene, over the phone.

I dislike the Jim/Pam stuff now. One season of it was enough -- let's move on. Dwight/Angela is funnier, anyhow.

Well, I think the writers rushed into it because they were unsure how long the show would last, and they wanted to bring it to fruition if it were cancelled.  Now they've sort of written themselves into a corner, but I think they're handling it well by easing away from it (but still keeping it in the background as a tease).  I sure would love to see more of the new chick in Jim's office, though.

I think your right.  The writers busted up the Jim and Pam thing (very skillfully, too), and they're using this season to develop the other characters more.  I just hope that when Jim does return to Scranton (and we know it's inevitable) that it's not all for naught.  I don't want to see Jim & Pam part 2.  When that happens, the show is basically Friends, and it becomes gay.  Jim/Pam 2 will kill the show quicker than the over-the-topness will.

This show keeps getting better and better. There simply were no wasted lines in the entire script. My favorite had to be Dwight's, 'just as you have planted your seed in the ground, so I will plant my seed in you' bit.

The way Michael is fleshing out as a character is frighteningly close to a lot of managers I have worked for. He's utterly incompetent at getting performance from his people, but is an effortlessly good closer. This is twice so far this season that he's come through with some really tough deals - and treats them both like an afterthought.

Oh, and the Jim and Pam stuff is soap opera bullshit. Let it go.
