whatru playing - weekend of 12/9/2007
« on: December 09, 2007, 01:15:19 AM »
This weekend hasn't held much game-time for me thus far...

When I can play anything it has been Phantasy Star Universe V2.

Some friends of mine were over earlier and we played 3player Super Rub a Dub (always fun)

PSU V2 has me sucked in deep (for reasons that make no sense)

I forgot how bad this games AI pathfinding is haha. I had to use another party member to physically push a cat out of the way that was blocking another character. I could have killed the cat too I suppose... Great game tho, much better than the first (but the first was good) and better than KOTOR and Mass Defect ;-)

Im at level 63 and have started hitting the Battlegrounds to gain marks and honor points for the PVP Armor and start saving up for the Season 1 Arena gear which is now open for the general public. Go go fire mage specc.

Cool point-tap adventure game so far. The characters are a lot of fun.

Still trucking away. I've been watching a lot of BLUGAY lately so its been going a bit slower, but there's always sunday.

* Rock Band - working on expert, slooowly, I am about 25 songs in out of 45, i keep getting owned at the end of Sufferage City, i made it to 96% and just croak and it got really frustrating so i put it away before i broke something

* Skate - just shitting around online, working my way up to Icon status for those achievements, since you only get 16 EXP for getting first, regardless of how many people are in, it takes a while. i am almost icon status for trick events.

I played rock band at Drinky's today and noticed there's a pretty big jump in difficulty between the levels. I really dug the songlist tho. If I start seeing a few more downloadable songs I may get it just for the guitar stuff.

You got Rock Band, Prole?  :o

Game-only, right?

Anyhow, I've been addicted to Hexic HD and I'm currently stuck at the end of "One Shot, One Kill" in COD4 Veteran. Jesus fucking Christ. And I played some GH3 with my buddy yesterday.

Yea, I just love puzzle games. Ones with no timer are relaxing, while ones that are competitive are intense as hell.

Did you get the most current patch?  Those Infinity Engine RPGS always had many updates.  Icewind Dale was cool but I still prefer BG for the deeper story and characterizations.

Rock Band is really easy, compared to Guitar Hero - the fact that I am doing Expert is testament alone (i usually peak at Medium, but I am sure i could do hard)

the drums are what's unforgiving, i have trouble even on Easy

This is why, if I decide to buy it, I pretty much need to get the whole package.

Are the vocals in Rock Band like singing Karaoke?

on Easy, sure, but the higher you go, its more along the lines of matching a certain pitch

if i try to sing like the real band, i am usually off-key even on medium, so i have to tweak my voice so it wavers on the line

they're also really strict on grading you, there's no real "ok" rating, it's either you did it and your meter increases, or you fuck up and it goes down

I know what u talking about, MAF, but it's hard for me to badmouth the infinity engine games.  They were like the Golden Age of RPG gaming on the PC.

Even with the tech problems, they're still better than 99% of the PC rpgs from the last 5 years.   :(

havent been gaming much this weekend, had a friend up from out of town so theres been some serious drinking and hanging out. Been nursing a bad hangover today and pissing around with the 360... played some Hexic (actually pretty cool once you get the hang of it, I tohught it kinda sucked when I 1st played it... the achievements are good), A couple of levels of Warriors Orochi (almost cleared em' all, got like 650 Gamerpoints on this  :D) Dead Rising, just about at the end then I decided to start over or something, kept getting killed and captured so I was like fuck it... might have a more focused/ planned playthrough where I'll try abd nab some more achieves... theres some fucken tough ones there... ie. Saint  :-X

I started Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga on a whim.  It's worse than Partners in Time, I dunno why people kept whining about how bad Partners in Time was compared to Superstar Saga.  It looks like a pretty short game, I think I'm already halfway through it!

This weekend, I played:

-Tekken 6 (Arcade)- It's all about BOB.  Kicked some ass but don't have much to show for it; you gotta pay 500 yen for a character card and then 315 yen every month to maintain it.  And the card is only good for 500 plays then you gotta buy another one.  Rip-off.  Virtua Fighter is the same way.

-Virtua Fighter 5 Live Arena (360)- The VF5 that SHOULD have been on PS3 in the first place.  Awesome, awesome game.

-Sengoku Basara 2 Heroes (PS2)- Played some two-player for the first time.  It's decent, but filled with pop-up and slowdown.  The game kicks so much ass that it's easy to deal with, however.

-No More Heroes (Wii)- They really picked the wrong platform to release such a "mature" game filled with violence and swear words.  WII = TEH KIDDY LOLZ.  Anyway it's getting repetitive already, but the the dialogue and story are intriguing enough to keep me going.  It looks like the game world keeps opening up with more to do; as long as the rest of the game isn't as repetitive as the 10th assassin's stadium area, it's good to go.

-Crush (PSP)- Kept me busy at the in-laws' house today.  This game is so damned awesome...it came out this year right?  If so then it's PSP GOTY no question.

-Phoenix Wright 3 (DS)- Beat the fourth case, now it's onto the final case.   Going to be weird not having a PW game to play once this is beaten.

-Swing Golf Pangya! 2 (Wii)- I was all over the original, only to get it at the J-Wii launch and be utterly disgusted with the awful frame rate and ugly, UGLY 480i-only resolution that I never played it.  The sequel addresses these issues and is much smoother.  It's fun to play with the Wiimote, but I get the feeling this one may be sold off this week because of Capcom's We Love Golf, which is the same type of game but looks much better.

The original! They released it on PSN on Thursday as a Digital Download. I figure I'd go for that over using my actual disk since there should be some speedup with the loadtimes and stuff. Only $6 anyways.

Gonna break it up and play some eye of judgement now.

played some eye of judgement online earlier - 1 game for each of my three newly built decks...

I won a round with my new Water deck, lost with my generic deck, and then lost again with my high powered biolith deck because i fukkin placed a card facing the wrong direction on a critical "check" turn :(

Then I played some Assassins Creed...there was a big update for the PS3 version that it made me download....I didn't notice much of a difference, but i dont have many problems with the game and haven't played it since the fresh buy honeymoon.

I gotta say while its very pretty and cool at times - the gameplay is still just a little 'meh'.

I think im gonna crack open portable ops + in a bit.
