What better way to give your readers confidence that you aren't being bought off than taking an already well selling game and giving it an unrealistically low score?

OTOH, am I imagining it or did you also hear them say on the podcast that they don't do exclusive previews, in an attempt to regain trust? And yet...EGM ran a Halo 3 exclusive AFAIK, and 1Up has a God of War PSP exclusive this week. I don't even have access to the mags so there may be some wrinkle I'm missing here. Did they say this was a new policy or for EGM only or something?

Ever since 1up/EGM started emphasizing personality over content, it's been kinda hard to take them seriously. For example, it's obvious that you can't take Shane seriously since he's just playing his role of being a Sony fanboy.

AC has one of the worst intros ever. I was playing it during a break from my group project and everyone kept asking me if I was done with the tutorial yet.

What is it like an hour before you get into the actual gameplay? I stopped playing shortly after kicking logs at all those Templar dudes.

no matter how you slice it though, review scores have a comparitive element by their very nature - and looking down the other review scores (assuming that

That's why they have 3 reviewers - to offset any outlier scores a bit. I like AC quite a bit myself and fully agree that such a non-typical score should be accompanied by a suitably weighty breakdown of the supposed faults but I've got no problem with seeing the full range of the scale being used...

I still dont get his score, 4.5 is a REALLY bad rating, and his annoyance at the beggars and street brawlers is a little weird. Whats he doing at street level so often anyway?

crispin is just fucking weaksauce period. he was probably getting owned left and right so he needed to vent his frustrations. the combat is fuckeasy really. i didn't even break a sweat getting the 100 kills w/out dying achievement. the game is a solid 7 at least. a 4.5 sounds irrational to me.

if he thinks he's trying to make a statement. the score sounds more like an emotional response more than anything. i'll find out when i get the next issue.

I take on like 20 guards at once. Once you have counter and grab escape the guard fights, aside from maybe the templars in some situations are easy! Wtf! And really you should drop DOWN to street level when your target is within range and blend from there. The beggars and drunks and distinguished mentally-challenged fellows are there to CHALLENGE. YES walking end to end through acre via the streets would become annoying. Use the rooftops.
