Included is a pic demonstrating the awesome 360 DIVX abilities
« on: December 11, 2007, 12:11:53 AM »
This screenshot of Paths of Glory was taken directly off my TV using my Sony CyberShot DSC-W200.  The original picture was taken at 12.1 megapixels and resized to the size below.  The only other change to the image is that I took the pic in greyscale (the movie is in black and white, and cam pics of screens introduce a lot of unwanted rgb interference).  The resolution of the original movie file was 640x480.  The resolution on the TV is 1280x720p.

You will say WOW

you should probably turn the sharpness on your tv down -- see the white rings around black objects?

The actual picture is a bit softer than that.  It's more grey than the black in the pcture shows, and there's also some artifacing there, either from the camera (a CyberShot which really isn't great for dark shots), resizing the image, and jpeg compression.  In my haste to post it, I didn't really take the time to set up the best settings in photoshop, plus I didn't want to be accused of altering it or anything, so I used PS minimally.

Divx seems almost pointless for someone with a huge DVD collection like you.

I have a lot of TV.  Also, if there is a movie I want to watch that I don't want to give money to (namely absolutely terrible, sick shit like What the Bleep Do We Know), I will get it at the internet store.  Note that if it's just a bad, easy to find movie, I will buy it.  I save theft for the despicable.

Also, things that are difficult to find I will nab (Paths of Glory and The Killing--I would buy them if I saw them in a store, but I can't find em).  And of course there's the out of print stuff (or in the case of like Funeral Parade of Roses, never released in any form in the US).

I have my rules, but if I am stuck in a week without money, they go out the window sometimes, but even when that happens, I buy what I steal once I do get the money.
