Except that there's nothing that distinguished Mario from Luigi and Luigi is a fucking pallete swap. Tails can fly, reach power ups Sonic can't get to, and get to secret areas that Sonic can't get to either. Tails is hardly useless.

tails is totally fucking useless. he's a gayass shitty friend; he's an on-screen distraction and waste of cpu/raster resources; and he just DOESN'T NEED TO BE THERE. at least you don't share a screen with an ai-controlled luigi

In Sonic 2, all you have to do is go to options. Options is hidden under 2p. Just press down on the dpad two times and go to the options menu. Then you can switch between Sonic, Tails, or Sonic and Tails.

As for Sonic 2 and Knuckles. Not too sure, it's been a while, but I see no reason as to why you shouldn't be able to go to the options in that game.
