Rewatching House: Season 1
« on: December 11, 2007, 11:58:41 PM »
The pilot is so good.

Everybody lies.

But as the philosopher Jagger once said "You can't always get what you want."

There's no such thing! Our bodies break down, sometimes when we're 90, sometimes before we're even born, but it always happens and there's never any dignity in it! I don't care if you can walk, see, wipe your own ass... it's always ugly, always! You can live with dignity; you can't die with it!

Would that upset you, really, to think that you were hired for some genetic gift of beauty instead of some genetic gift of intelligence?

Yeah, I was on House from day one.

The last couple of seasons haven't been that great. Here's to NyQuil and nostalgia.

I'm glad I feel differently.  I just got into the series about 2 months ago (I've watched every episode in that time though) and it feels like the show keeps getting better.  Though, that episode a week or so ago with the punk rock dude was a little weaker than the other recent ones.

This is one show that I can say I've never seen a "bad" episode.  Maybe less awesome, but nothing bad.

Here's to low standards.

I've only seen the first two (and a few eps from the third) seasons, but season one, while still really good stuff, is significantly weaker than what the show becomes.  It still has its moments, and House the character is always great, but it starts out way to stand-aloney, like it was modeled after the CSI-style procedurals (which it clearly was).  The show definitely evolved a bit and got a lot better as it went on.  It never escapes its formula, really (that's one of the sorta recurring jokes), but every episode doesn't seem as rigidly similar, as if they all follow the same script blueprint and plot formula.

I think the show overall got better as it settled in, but the procedural part was best in the first season.

Those episodes were good at setting up medical mysteries (hey, remember Medical Mysteries?) that hinged on an easily comprehensible fact, and generally worked with information the audience already had.  The final diagnosis would be something that had been brought up earlier in the show.

They've gotten away from that a bit.  There have been some episodes where House has his revelation, storms into the patient's room, then describes a condition that the audience wouldn't know about unless they happened to be practicing diagnosticians themselves.

It's as bad as anything Geordie LaForge or Miss Marple ever did.

Now that I am like a half year removed, I almost feel embarassed that I was ever excited for season 3.5 of Entourage.  They really dropped the ball on that show.

We are currently in the middle of Season 4.

Season 1-2 were priceless, but it really started to decline whenever the cop bullshit started in Season 3. However, I've really liked Season 4 so far, so yeah.

Ah so it came out the same time as Grey's. :) We're in the middle of season 4 as well.

Well, we're actually at the end of season 4, because of the strike. :'( Season 4 is only going to be 11 episodes. Sad sad sad!

House is amazing. Forgotten Ancient got me into it. Then I got my wife watching. We just sat up until 12:30am (late for us) watching Season 2. A couple episodes & the Euphoria episodes. OMG They were the most intense episodes ever!

Great fucking show. I <3 House & Jennifer Morrisons ass.

The common criticism levied against show--that every episode has the same structure--is a reductionist critique and misses the point. The show is not simply about solving the case. This is not CSI. This is a character driven show.

At this point the medical mysteries hold very little interest for me. The quality of the show now rests entirely on the quality of the characters and their personal stories. There has been some infusion of new blood--the candidates--and this has made this season more interesting. But the most important character--Gregory House--is no longer as interesting as he was in the initial run of the show. Forgotten Ancient claims that House is consistently clever and funny. This may be true, but while it is still clever it is not as intelligent. Specifically, Dr. House is not as wise and insightful as he was. He's more of a badass Patch Adams. A clown with a wicked sense of humour. He was more than that.

I really wanna try this show. Mainly because I love Hugh from his british work. And  cause the chick in this Jennifer Morrison is the main girl in the new Star Trek movie.
