"Two weeks ago, Harmonix created a software patch for the Sony PLAYSTATION 3 version of Rock Band that allowed for guitar compatibility and support for third party peripherals, including enabling use of Activision's Guitar Hero III controller with Rock Band," the company told Shacknews.

"Unfortunately, Activision objected to the release of the compatibility patch," the statement continues. "The patch remains with Sony, but we have been told that it will unfortunately not be released due to Activision's continued objection."

Guess it's time to ban Activision from NeoGAF

Ah, well. I'll just buy a standalone guitar in the Spring. It's not like the Guitar Hero III software is worth two shits at this point.

EBGames has them listed as coming out on February 8th. That's better than the Spring.

I played Guitar Hero III for the first time since Rock Band's release at our company party last Friday, and wow. There is no fucking reason to ever put that game in your system again. This sucks in the short term, but in the long term? Activision is running scared due to the EXTREME SMOKING they are receiving at the hands of EA/Harmonix.

Also, there's no way for them to 'lock out' the 360 interoperability unless 1) the controller has a flashable firmware in it or 2) they get some form of court-ordered injunction against Harmonix. Neither of which I see as likely.

Either way... man Activision are just being dicks. They just lost the only chance of me buying GHIII.

We're gonna have to AtD on this one. GH1 had 5-6 bonus songs I played on a regular basis and actually got me into their respective bands. Drist, Anarchy Club, Honest Bob & tFtDI, The Slip... and comon' man... CAVEMAN REJOICE

The timing window to hit a note is a lot bigger in GH3 than RB.

There are some pretty damn good bonus songs in GHIII.

A Muse pack is required for Rock Band.

dcharlie, I'm pretty sure in terms of timing window

GH1 < GH2 = RB < GH3

(GH1 is the most strict)

I wish they picked something off of OoS or Absolution for GHIII instead of Knights. It's a song more suited to Rock Band than Guitar Hero.
