Which Blu-Ray BladeRunner release will you get?
« on: December 13, 2007, 02:08:57 PM »
5-disk complete collectors edition?

Quote
Disc One
RIDLEY SCOTT'S ALL-NEW "FINAL CUT" VERSION OF THE FILM
Restored and remastered with added & extended scenes, added lines, new and cleaner special effects and all new 5.1 Dolby Digital Audio. Also includes:

Commentary by Ridley Scott
Commentary by executive producer/co-screenwriter Hampton Fancher and co-screenwriter David Peoples; producer Michael Deely and production executive Katherine Haber
Commentary by visual futurist Syd Mead; production designer Lawrence G. Paull, art director David L. Snyder and special photographic effects supervisors Douglas Trumbull, Richard Yuricich and David Dryer
Disc Two
DOCUMENTARY DANGEROUS DAYS: MAKING BLADE RUNNER
A feature-length authoritative documentary revealing all the elements that shaped this hugely influential cinema landmark. Cast, crew, critics and colleagues give a behind-the-scenes, in-depth look at the film -- from its literary roots and inception through casting, production, visuals and special effects to its controversial legacy and place in Hollywood history.

Disc Three
1982 THEATRICAL VERSION
This is the version that introduced U.S. movie-going audiences to a revolutionary film with a new and excitingly provocative vision of the near-future. It contains Deckard/Harrison Ford's character narration and has Deckard and Rachel's (Sean Young) "happy ending" escape scene.

1982 INTERNATIONAL VERSION
Also used on U.S. home video, laserdisc and cable releases up to 1992. This version is not rated, and contains some extended action scenes in contrast to the Theatrical Version.

1992 DIRECTOR'S CUT
The Director's Cut omits Deckard's voiceover narration and removes the "happy ending" finale. It adds the famously-controversial "unicorn" sequence, a vision that Deckard has which suggests that he, too, may be a replicant.

Disc Four
BONUS DISC - "Enhancement Archive": 90 minutes of deleted footage and rare or never-before-seen items in featurettes and galleries that cover the film's amazing history, production teams, special effects, impact on society, promotional trailers, TV spots, and much more.

Featurette "The Electric Dreamer: Remembering Philip K. Dick"
Featurette "Sacrificial Sheep: The Novel vs. The Film"
Philip K. Dick: The Blade Runner Interviews (audio)
Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep Cover Gallery (images)
The Art of Blade Runner (image galleries)
Featurette "Signs of the Times: Graphic Design"
Featurette "Fashion Forward: Wardrobe & Styling"
Screen Tests: Rachel & Pris
Featurette "The Light That Burns: Remembering Jordan Cronenweth"
Unit photography gallery
Deleted and alternate scenes
1982 promotional featurettes
Trailers and TV spots
Featurette "Promoting Dystopia: Rendering the Poster Art"
Marketing and merchandise gallery (images)
Featurette "Deck-A-Rep: The True Nature of Rick Deckard"
Featurette "--Nexus Generation: Fans & Filmmakers"
Disc Five
WORKPRINT VERSION
This rare version of the film is considered by some to be the most radically different of all the Blade Runner cuts. It includes an altered opening scene, no Deckard narration until the final scenes, no "unicorn" sequence, no Deckard/Rachel "happy ending," altered lines between Batty (Rutger Hauer) and his creator Tyrell (Joe Turkell), alternate music and much more. Also includes:

Commentary by Paul M. Sammon, author of Future Noir: The Making of Blade Runner
Featurette "All Our Variant Futures: From Workprint to Final Cut"

Why did you say just blu-ray? A lot here are HD-DVD'ers or just dvd'ers.

This thread sounds very fanboyish.  :lol

Just say you are buying the HDDVD version then.

I do not have an HD-DVD player so I do not know what is coming out for it or when.

Man I have no idea but i dont see a need to turn this into something its not....this is about buying the standard edition or the $100 metal briefcase with the figurine and photos - i dont care about HDDVD Vs. Blu Ray clearly as I have no idea whats available on the platform.

metal briefcase.

to be honest, i don't know what's available for both platforms and what's exclusive either really.  so it's understandable.  and there's nothing wrong with him pumping his platform of choice.  we all do it.

I dont have the player and see no need to study up on its content.

If they release a new X360 with a built in HD DVD player like rumored ill likely trade my elite X360 up for the new HDDVD X360.

At that point i will concern myself with what movies are available for HD DVD.

Are we lucid?

Even if you don't concern yourself with it asking which version of bluray is just blatant trolling. You KNOW its on DVD and HD-DVD, everyone does.

you honestly can say you had no clue that this movie would be on dvd and hd-dvd? There is no possible way you would ever think this was some blu-ray exclusive.

None. Ive decided to hold out for the inevitable release of JUST The Final Cut on HD DVD. I dont want the other versions (aside from Director's Cut, but Im happy with my remastered DVD of that one), and I know sooner or later WB will appease me on this one.

I know, but like I said, I dont want all the other shit. And I swear, although Im not like this in any other facet of life, Im totally OCD with DVDs. If I own all 5 discs, I will feel obligated to watch all 5 fucking cuts, lol. And I dont want to watch 5 versions of it.

Kyle and GayBoy - for this kind of discussion may I point you over to a fine venue known as OA?

I am sure they will want to get into a heated sultry debate over what HD disk platform has what exclusives, talk about sales stats, Chinese conspiracies, The Evil Empire IP TV plans and so on. You might find it enjoyable.

They will serve it all up with a side of Redwood nudes.

I didnt think this was a Blu Ray exclusive - I mean after all the same steel case back is available for DVD even.

Sorry to get yer feathers all riled up.

Uh who was talking about sales or anything? I am just saying purposely ignoring the existence of other formats in a forum where there is no clear majority of format preference unlike GAF is absurd.

I also wish they would have just made the ultimate edition like the close encounters ultimate HD edition....a nice small box with an artbook and a few disks in a case.....perfect sized to fit on a normal shelf next to the other movies.

If you get the suitcase edition, you'll have to pretty much pull out the suitcase and prop it up like they do in the movies. All dramatic and shit.

Standard for me on HD-DVD. already ordered :)

I watched a 720p hdtv rip earlier this year and it looked very nice indeed but can't wait for the real thing. I'm in total agreement with the sentiment about only needing one version of the film. I'll never watch the others, most likely. But i guess sticking them all in one box makes for an easy shopping choice, and the price is right...

Check this site http://www.highdefdigest.com for reviews to see which transfer is better.  In recent months, multiplatform releases have been about the same but there're still differences sometimes.
