(Updates to add 2008/09 forecasts, more comment; clarifies 5th par to show third quarter)PARIS (Thomson Financial) - Ubisoft Entertainment said it has raised its full-year targets after recording very strong sales for its Assassin's Creed game. The French video game maker now expects to sell 5 mln units of Assassin's Creed in 2007/08, compared to a previous target of 3 mln.The company stressed that Assassin's Creed is the fastest-selling new video game intellectual property in the US ever, and recorded more than two and a half million units in sell-through sales worldwide in less than four weeks. As a result, Ubisoft has raised its guidance for full-year sales and current operating margin before stock options. The company now sees full-year sales above 840 mln eur, including 410 mln eur in the third quarter, compared to its previous targets of 825 mln and 330 mln respectively.Ubisoft also upped its guidance for operating margin to at least 12 pct of sales, versus its previous goal of at least 9 pct. In addition to the impact of Assassin's Creed, the company said profits will be boosted by lower-than-anticipated research and development costs due to the postponing of the release of Tom Clancy's End War, Brothers in Arms and Far Cry 2 until 2008/09, instead of the fourth quarter of the current year.Ubisoft also gave initial forecasts for 2008/09, guiding for sales of about 975 mln eur and operating margin of at least 11 pct. The company said the forecasts notably reflect the launch of four new brands, seven franchises, and new games in the Imagine, Petz and MyCoach series.More details on the games portfolio are to given on Jan 23 in the third quarter sales report, Ubisoft said.
