People often dislike or 'dont like as much as' the FF7 soundtrack because it's midi I think. I think there's nothing wrong with that and is actually the charm of it. It doesn't even sound midi to me. I hear it as normal instruments.
While I like all the 3 soundtracks of the Final Fantasy's (that's right, there are only 3 FF games, FF7, 8 and 9), 7 has the most unique tracks of them all.
FF8 and 9 have great tunes, and I always listen to them, but most of it don't have that special feeling. It's good background music, ingame and offgame, but FF7 has just too many awesome songs and anthems like Still Fighting, JENOVA and Shinra Company Theme.
Don't get me wrong, VIII has killer tracks as well. Never Look Back, The Man With The Machine Gun, Under Her Control, Find Your Way....etc.. all of it.
As for FF7, I agree that it's the most memorable game of all time. There are just too many moments to mention. I've heard everyone say how much shocked they were when they finally left Midgar and realized that it was just the beginning of the game. Same happened for me. I really thought leaving Midgar would be the moment where it would change to disc 2.
