lmao
Did Hardcore Gaming actually say that, tiesto?
I remember reading once on Hardcore Gaming that one of the dudes there HATED DQ and equates it to generic japa rpg drivel. I shat on DWVII and specifically DQVIII.
From the main page of HG101:
Longtime HG101 readers may recall that I did not much care for Dragon Quest VIII back when it came yet, wreaking havoc on the entirety of the series. And yet, this update I've written a full look at the Dragon Quest / Dragon Warrior series. How did this happen? I've been attributing to cranial damage, but the truth is, I got into Blue Dragon back when it came out during the summer...and then my 360 RRODed. Hungry for something similar, I grabbed Dragon Quest VIII off the shelf to give it another chance. It all clicked this time and I ended up really enjoying it, inspiring me to give the whole series another shot. For any of those in similar mindsets, I'd recommend trying the same - it is a bit slow and archaic, but there's some good stuff to be had, especially in the Japanese only DQV and VI. Even playing the old NES games is acceptable with a frame skipping function on an emulator. DQIV just got a DS remake too, which isn't officially announced for English release but should hopefully be coming.
And nope, I don't remember much grinding in any DQ games aside from the early NES ones, and no 8-bit RPG was free of grinding so that's a moot point... DQ games are mostly grinding for a bit in the beginning, middle, and end. Certain DQ games are more challenging than others, namely 6, but that's more due to you not using the proper skills to defeat the bosses.
