This was a stealth update today and one of the best.  I played FFVII, Xenogears, etc. on my PSP today via remote play.  One of the best updated features ever and makes me love my PS3 even more.  The 360 definitely can't do something this cool. ;)

even I have to admit, this is a pretty funky hi-tech feature! Wether I'd use it is another story, but still cool!

hold on - so you can play the games on your PS3 hdd via remote play?

if you have to have the disk in the drive this is a bit pointless and more of a novelty, isn't it?

remote play - if i can simply use the PS3 as a big old remote file server for the PSP would be nice, but need support for "download to memory stick" for real wins.

come on, dcharlie, even a jaded Xbot like yourself has to admit this is an awesome feature. "boo hoo I don't have access to my entire PS1 library at once"--well, no, but it's free and doesn't require any ripping or converting!

I wouldn't be worried about lag as much as load times or disconnects.  if it works well then it's good but they need to let you rip the CD's to the hard drive.  not that many people would want to play through a whole PS1 game but if they let you choose from a bunch of games to play for 5 minutes than this would be awesome.

I bet nintendo's going to release some gameboy player like attachment for the wii to let you do this if this gets a lot of praise.

yeah I'd imagine they would do that in the future.  this is just the test run.  they will probably do that when they have everything smoothed out regarding the PSP PSN store access.

you can also play all of the PSOne games you can download from the PSN over remote play.

There is also that rumor that SONY is going to let us 'import' PSOne and PS2 games to the PS3 HDD like some kind of itunes. IT will DRM the game to your machine.

Esentially what DC charlie asks is likely in the near future.

PSP2 or II or Next or whatever better have dual analogue...discs or whatever the fuck they're called

also some dual shoulder buttons or some face buttons representing R2 and L2 would be nice

you can't play shit that requires any of that

I love the idea of someone playing FFVII in Starbucks, happy as a pig in shit, and then the prompt to 'Insert Disk 2' comes up... :lol

Seriously, though - awesome feature, pity for Sony the pirates got there months ago.

I wasnt comparing the 360 to PS1, I was comparing it to the PS3

you can argue that becuase the PS3 plays PS1 games its better than 360, thats stupid

a PS1 can play PS1 games and you can buy one for $20

DAMMIT why did this feature have to drop AFTER I started my xmas vacation?

I could have used my PS3 6,000 miles away in Japan  :o

I love the idea of ripping games to the PS3's HDD too. PS3 is such an awesome machine, pity the actual native game selection is zzzz

It's a really cool feature, but I'm done with the PSone library.  I can't think of any game that I'm interested in re-playing.  I agree, Hyp, it would be great if this could be done with PS2 games and its superior library.

I loved Tomba 1.  Wasn't it 2-D, Robby?  I think the sequel was in 3-D, right?  Was it as good as the first game?  Talk about one of the overlooked gems in that system's library.

i don't own a ps3 and i'm not sure i'm understanding this correctly.

-i can rip a ps1 game to my ps3 harddrive
-i can play it on my ps3 and tv
-i can play it on my psp but only if the ps3 is running and the psp is getting the signal from it

if this is true then it's FUCKING STUPID WHO FUCKING CARES

if it's not then i'm sorry for the misunderstanding.
