Along with finally getting the third season of 24, I plan on catching up on another TV show. Assuming I don't just get Arrested Development S1, I'm looking at The Shield and The Wire. Both are cop/street dramas, and I've heard good things about both shows. But while I've heard The Shield is good, I've heard The Wire is on an entire different level of quality and substance.

What do you guys think

that was a great show

I loved how they tied it all together in the third and final season with no loose ends

I can't see his post, but if he is asking the titular question, I think he would be better off if he stuck to something more his speed, like maybe Cop Rock.

Right now I'm leaning more towards The Wire. I've probably spoiled myself a bit with youtube videos, but sometimes it takes seeing some death scenes to get interested in a show.

The Wire is the better show, but I find The Shield more entertaining. Both are totally fuck awesome, though. I still need to watch the most recent seasons of both. Season 4 of The Wire will be watched after finals are over this week. Season 6 of The Shield afterwards.

has the internet not taught you that i'm most likely the exact opposite of what i pretend to be?

in the end it's irrelevant.

both are excellent series, but the shield is more viscerally attached directly to your id (not i.d. it won't card you for being underage) while the wire tries to engage you on a far more intellectual level.

if you don't like intellectual pursuits, then you may not like the wire, but if you enjoy the shield more, i'm not calling you dumb because again, they're not the same thing.

i actually agree with your thoughts on second season of the wire. it was like "wait, they're letting us do this again?" the third season, in my opinion, is the best season.

it's hard to pick a favorite wire season because it's consistently excellent. i like the season with Glen Close a great deal though.
