I love Windows Vista, RC2 rocks
« on: October 22, 2006, 11:15:24 AM »
anyone else running it? i have the x64bit version, it runs really smooth on my athlon64. i have alot of ram (3gigs)

some games don't work, but a bunch do. i've been playing Battlefield 2 and 2142, and i finished HL2 ep1 in Vista too. I can't wait until retail, or at least hope they release another big update. next to OSX, i'd have to say it's my favorite OS. it's about the same, since they have simlar features, but i can play more games on this.

I haven't been following Vista.  What does it have over Xp pro?

Is it worth upgrading to (and I mean buying it not downloading it)?

The RAM thing is the only thing stopping me although I'll probably get a new laptop for christmas.

How much will vista retail for?

i'm not sure, but you can download Vista now for free. How is it better? for me, it looks better, all the windows are transparent. it seems to run faster and smoother then XP for me. IE64 bit is fast too.

the gadets/widgts are nice, i like how things are organized too, like the windows, moving around and navigating is really easy.

is 2 gigs of ram enough?

If Vista is good I'll upgrade my 2 gaming desktops (my AMD FX-55 and the 3.6gh P4 systems).

Not going to bother with my laptops or media PC.

i don't know the requirements, i would think so.

just do one for now, maybe some games won't work. i'm dual booting right now, put Vista on it's on HDD, the thing is, when it rates my computer, the hdd is the lowest thing, so i might re-install fresh on my SATA drive. not sure if it will help, since i will just make a second partition but i dunno i need to drink my morning coffee now....

:)

it's just that one gig of RAM requirement ouch, both of my laptops that I purchased last year and the year before can't keep up with that ;p.

It looks nice though I'll give it that.

Im running RC2, I like it a lot. Aside from Creative's utter shit drivers, and the weird issue I have with any P2P connectivity shutting down all network traffic to my PC, its been a peach :)

Im running on an Athlon 64 at 2 gigs, its great. I ran it on 1 gig ok tho too. Honestly tho, 1 GiG of RAM should be minimum in this day and age. Company of Heroes is OMG. Also note the ATi video drivers are > Nvidia's Vista drivers CURRENTLY. ATi has an advantage cause theyre totally HUGZ with MS and Vista.

yeah, but its smooth too. i installed the vista beta along time ago, it sucked, i got rid of it. i think it was like this for alot of people, but they've come along way. it's just fast, pretty stable (for a beta)

it really for me, feels better and more advanced. nice and snappy, just how i like it.

I'm running Vista RC2 just peachy on a Sempron 3300+ laptop with a gig of RAM and a X300 videocard -- runs the full set of Aero effects just fine, and I actually got a bit of a performance boost to WoW and Guild Wars on it. Couldn't get GalCiv2 to install correctly on it, though; the copy protection didn't play nice with the 64-bit version.

Vista Beta 2 was, uh, VERY beta. RC1 was like night and day compared to it.

yeah that's it for me, some things just seem to run better with the 64bit. it's exciting, 'cause it's feels like for me, that it is enhancing stuff. (prob not lol)

but yea, all these nice area effects? without and noticable speed/performance problems.

i'll buy this when it comes out i think.

it's actually enhancing quite a bit. the TCP/IP stack has been completely overhauled so you should see a small boost in network performance and reliability (unless yer 32-bit NIC drivers are unhappy, ala MAF's), and the kernel resource layer has loads of rather dramatic optimizations. DX10 and the audio subsystem are also completely new, and the driver layer is likewise new. Tests have shown all kinds of perfomance that are pretty dramatic when it comes to games and multimedia -- hell, I got about a 5-8 fps boost out of Oblivion when I had it on my main gaming rig (rolled back to XP64 'cuz I wanted better support for my X-Fi.)

4.1! NO! YOU BEAT ME!

i had a shitty computer for a long time and it broke, so this time i bought a nice one (i think) and used my old ram and got a different videocard. not top of the line, but most games i run on max. i just use it for so many other things too. but anyhow, I love Vista!

if i only could get OSX onto my PC, but thats a different topic, possibly for another forum.

you don't need a sata drive, you can get RC2 free from MS. let me see if i can still find the link.

Got it installed.

Wow it's fast.

Questions: Should I try to run nvidia gfx drivers or stick with what's there?

Also, what is MS gonna do once Vista goes live, can we simply update to final or we gonnahave to re-install?

Hmmm, I wonder what versions Microsoft Certified Partners will get.  My desktop / laptop are both running the media center edition of XP because it doesn't count against the number of XP pro installs we can have and it has some features I need.

i have a vaild media center xp installed and this, i'm going to shrink the xp partition and hope a fresh Vista will install and let me create a new partition with the free space.

Galatic Civ 2 is working fine, going to go play it some more.

Granted I'm not that familiar with Mac OS and I haven't used that shit in like 2-3 years, but you can honestly say, all biases aside (but you LIKE Apple, dun chu? Just like you like Nintendo, ya won't admit it), that Vista doesn't look a LOT like Mac OS, based on these screenshots?

I use mac os alot, and this IS different, sure they have their own widgets/gadgets now, but the interface is far from mac'ish and still hold that windows style.
