Do airlines still offer bereavement rates?

So my wife's grandma died last night, and I hafta fly out to Tulsa on a moment's notice. I ran the numbers at Expedia (dawt com!!), and the round-trip fare for two adults and a child came out to:

$2322


Fuuuuuuhhhhhhhh-ck! That's the price of a new HDTV! Before I call around, do any of you fine feggits know if the airlines still offer bereavement rates? I remembered getting like half off when I flew down there for her other grandma's funeral five or six years ago, but in this new Bushfucked economy I figure charitable gestures like that are a thing of the past.

About a year ago I was able to get a bereavement rate quote from Southwest and Continental.  That was last summer though.

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about you and your wife's loss. My condolences to you both.

Pretty much all the major airlines do still give bereavement rates, and you can save up to 50 percent in a lot of cases. Call the airline directly and ask them what the rate would be, and feel free to let them know you're shopping around for the best deal (they may drop the price even further). A lot of the time they'll need to know the name of the deceased, and want to have details like where the funeral is being held and at what time so they can verify your claims.

My parents did this when my grandfather died. It really helped out a lot.

Janet just called around, and we got it down to $1300 at American, which is eminently fair considerin'. We had to provide the name and address of the funeral home so they could verify.

When my grandfather died a couple years back my mom was quoted a $600 "bereavement rate" down from $1000. A regular reservation a month in advance normally costed her $200-300  Bereavement rate my ass.

Yeah, you can.  We actually got a discount rate and first class.

This is my secret, i've been using the system when i fly a lot. It was funny how gulible they would be. All i did was find someone dead where i was traveling to and then do some searching find out where its being held. I saved so much. 800 dollar flight to texas only cost me 200 bucks and southwest gave me upgrade to first. Twas awesome.

Fact dude, it all depends on who you talk to at the airline. I got the same lady twice when traveling to pheonix and texas. Though when i was going to pheonix i really was going to a funneral. My greatgrandmother god rest her soul.
