My impressions of The Shield season 5
« on: December 22, 2007, 12:34:33 PM »
I just finished it and. . .

:bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :heartbeat :hyper :hyper :hyper :hyper :hyper :hyper :hyper :hyper :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :hump :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow

I know I say this every time I finish a season, but they really keep raising the bar.  No two seasons are alike, except in the gripping, tense pacing.  Holy FUCKY FUCKY FUCKY naturally I am DLing season 6 as we speak.  I HAVE TO SEE what happens next!  FUCK MY MONKEY ISLAM HOLE!

Wait, did you just rip through it overnight?

Uh, yes.  I started yesterday afternoon and I just finished about an hour ago.

THE POWER OF VIC MACKEY

How does the show keep getting better?  The only time I thought it ever dipped in quality were two little plot developments in season four, and the deus ex machina in season five in the form of

.  And I am ignoring the existence of Co-Pilot.

Man, that season was hard-fucking-core.  Forest Whitaker was incredible!  He was the best "bad guy" yet!

Ignoring Co-Pilot is pretty easy to do.

And yeah, Whittaker was like holy fuck awesome. Didn't it used to be a sign of a fading/slumping career that a film actor did TV? Thank God that's not the case anymore. He's just brought the show to a new level.

I'm still ashamed that I missed a few episodes of Season 2 when it first aired and subsequently stopped watching. (But kept up with 24 because a lot of my friends did the same) What a mistake that was.

I can't believe how amazing all the acting is on the show.  Aside from a few Shane moments, there are generally very few times when I do not find the acting convincing or effective.  It's a pretty big cast, too, so that makes it especially impressive.

Man, I can't wait to plow through season six today!  And then wait four months until the last season :(

No, I haven't. I've had it downloaded for a while now, though. Never felt like watching it on my laptop. But I'm streaming it with my 360 RIGHT NOW OMG

I don't recall anything memorable about Season 6, really.  The plot with Whittaker's character gets wrapped up really quickly -- I think this is because the first few episodes of S6 were supposed to be the final episodes of S5.

It's not as bad as, say the penultimate batch of Sopranos episodes, right?

Season 6 is pretty good.

Things get pretty crazy in this season from beginning to end.  They introduce a couple of new side characters that change things up considerably.  I think the pacing of the 6th season perfectly matches the possible feelings the former Strike Team has about the situations they come across.

Kavanaugh only lasts about 2 or at most 3 episodes.

I am guessing there is no new bad guy for Vic?  I'd like more Acevada in 6 and 7 again, but I know that isn't likely.  I am interested to see how Claudette does running the Barn.

I don't want to spoil it for you but since you will be seeing them for yourself here in a few hours anyway, the most general hints:

1) In terms of someone like Armadillo or Antwon that shakes everything up, no.

2) Aceveda ain't going nowhere

3) She does a good job
