I've enjoyed 2007 more than 2006. Mainly due to all the awesome indie comedies. Best year for the indie comedy this decade, easily.

Neither 2006 or 2007 hold up to 2001-2004 in terms of great movies though.

I am not rating them  :lol Rating them would be like OMG 2007 WAS a 8.5 YEAR. I am done with rating movies, PD's obsession  with rating everything ruined them.  :-\

IIRC is was shake who began the whole EB rating and ranking movie threads.

My belated list:

Top 10
1. No Country for Old Men

5. There Will Be Blood
6. Diving Bell and the Butterfly
7. Tekkonkinkreet
8. Gone Baby Gone
9. Eastern Promises
10. Death at a Funeral

5 Lesser-Known Honorary Mentions
Cashback (Weird indie dramedy about using the power to stop time to grope girls' boobs.)
Bug (A Phillip K. Dickian tale of shared paranoia and insanity.)
Behind the Mask: The Leslie Vernon Story (An amusing deconstruction of the serial killer genre)
Angel-A ("It's a Wonderful Life" for a new generation.)
The Wind that Shakes the Barley (The Brits vs. The Irish vs...some other Irish in a war of independence. A bit of a sticky wicket.)

Bottom 10
1. Elf Bowling: The Movie (For obvious reasons)
2. Thr3e (Worst thriller of the year)
3. DOA: Dead or Alive (Makes Street Fighter: The Movie look like Bloodsport)

8. Halloween (2007) (Rob Zombie is a hack)

No Country for Old Men

No Country for Old Men

No Country for Old Men

Honorable Mention: JUNO

Actual Honorable Mention instead of prodding the board for a trollfest: Across the Universe. Even though it sounds like it's one of those love it a lot or hate it with a passion films. But hey, Cheebs doesn't like it, and it's a Beatles musical. Win for me.

It was everything I was looking for in a musical. Plot Progression during the songs, a decent plot, and kickass music. It doesn't get much more kickass than the Beatles.

Let it Be sequence: one of the best filmed sequences this year.

1. 300 (i <3 rand and rescuing the world from mysticism and tyranny)
2. Hot Fuzz
3. Dan In Real Life

Eastern Promises, Zodiac, Bourne Ultimatum, Die Hard, The Kingdom, Resident Evil 3, and Rescue Dawn all get a MEH from me.  EP and RD might get picked up cheap someday in the future.
