Since it appears that people are indeed attempting to translate FM5, I'm suggesting the same thing IcemanUK did a long time ago: create a team to translate FM5. Based on what I've seen and played around with, here's the general planning I've come up with to tackle the situation:

1. Interface Translation
2. Gameplay Translation
3. Story Translation
4. Beta Testing

1 refers to the SLPM file that handles the FM5's interface. This is the one I've seen most people have tackled, myself included. I'm around the same state as the person who uploaded the SLPM file with translations. This is arguably the easiest to get out of the way due to people having played with the file.

2 is the actual meat of the gameplay... should be the next easiest since a lot of it is in katakana. Translating them properly will be easy with the guides me and opfer_gv have for the FM5. Finding all the .dat files that store the info won't be easy though... 10,017 files is monstrously huge.

3 would pertain to anything that isn't covered by 1 and 2. The hardest and longest part no doubt. There's also the issue of properly conveying FM material, but I'd say only one person well versed in FM is suffice enough here. This definitely should come after 1 and 2 are taken care of.

4 is simple: make sure the translations actually work and there aren't any problems when text was changed. Obviously, this goes last when 1, 2, and 3 are complete.

We'll need a place to monitor updates and it can't be this site for obvious reasons. I'm preparing documents with FM material to familiarize others with the FM world and terminology. For now, gathering people is the first step to getting this project up and running.

A few things have been done, they have pictures to show the differences. There's already a patch that's been out there for about a month (which requires the Front Mission 5 ISO), and it translates a little bit of the interface.

Nice to see that people are even hacking japanese PS2 games that have never been localized in english to make them readable for non-japanese speakers!

... for not releasing further installments of obscure japanese strategy franchises that are 100% guaranteed to bomb and not to break even? sound business move, instead... the only reason Front Mission 3 and 4 were ever brought here in the first place was because of Final Fantasy Tactics' popularity

It was probably very cheap to just translate the DS ROM for the Front Mission remake and give it a limited stateside commercial release with no publicity or marketing whatsoever. On the other hand, Front Mission 5 has multimedia elements.
