Exactly. And luckily most non-judeo Christian gods are pretty lax about that. I'm all good as long as God isn't involved in that Jehova Witness shit :punch

I think a lot of you religious types are missing the big picture. See, the faithful vs the SINNERS is really not so much an issue as Heavenly Property. See, there are people who are more faithful than you are PD. They are the people who dont say 'WELL IM GETTING IN'. The MOST faithful, the true believers, they live on Heaven's "Prime Real Estate". Those are the heavenly dwellings with viewing distance to the only Church, which is of course the house of God.

People like you, and maybe me? I mean we MIGHT get a spot near the lake, but chances are we'll be stuck on a border town with Limbo, and I dont even need to tell you how that depreciates property value. I mean you can try to make a good home there but chances are you'll find your quarters more and more cramped as people just like you, hedging their bets are crammed into those areas.

I mean you don't think you'll be treated equal to saints do you? Thats just silly. I mean at most you profess your faith on an interenet message board, I am not sure how many Heaven Tickets you can trade that life event in for.

It doesn't have to do with how good or humble you are though, according to the bible at least. It's more about service and such.

Does he have a new argument?
I don't know are Pascal's Wager or the Watchmaker etc. new arguments. The same old arguments are used on both sides, but one side has terrible amateurish arguments that, shockingly enough, are far more effective.

edit: I do wish Thor was a god.

Well I was just wondering why he was pushing the book so much.  If there was some new argument or a new idea, I'd understand. It just really comes off as "There is no god and religion is corrosive, so come to my conventions, buy my book and worship me instead!"

because you're self-aware, you're intrinsically biased toward the belief that you and humanity are special or intentional. we're no more special or intentional than a nebula or an ocean or an asteroid or a beetle -- we're just one anomaly out of unfathomable billions. our self-awareness makes us somewhat unique, but a preponderance of ammonia also makes the gaseous oceans of saturn unique.

He might also have avoided being the second most frequently mentioned individual in his book – if you count God as an individual.

Blah. People like this come off to me as arrogant fucks. 'OMG theres no proof there is a God, he doesn't exist!'. Sorry shithead, when we can't even have the ability to reach another planet yet, or explore and identify most of the creatures on our own planet, its pretty arrogant to try to prove there is no God. It's like looking at binoculars from your house and saying you can't see China, so it doesn't exist. We have no scope of any kind, so its not much of a stretch to say we cant prove the most powerful thing in the universe/creator of the universe. Maybe when someone figures out how to get to another fucking planet or some of the simplest crap in the overall scheme of things we can even start to think about other lifeforms or higher powers, otherwise guysl ike this just sound like arrogant ignorant fucks.

i think it is a shame that there is bias and hatred on both sides. i'm agnostic, but i don't go around trying to prove anything, or be "arrogant" or whatever.

I'm more of a Buddhist then anything, but Buddhism is not a religion so anyhow.

its pretty arrogant to try to prove there is no God.

as such it is very arrogant to try and label such a being, if it exists, or to even try to define it, and at the worst, our definition and explanations (from religion) are absolute, and unchange. that's why i enjoy studying Buddhism or metaphysics or some other form of spirituality.

you don't need god or religion to be spiritual, and IMHO from my own experience (not from faith) you don't need god or religion for spiritual growth or evolution.

Aw, I wanted to do the starship one.

But the arrogance isn't in saying something doesn't exist, or in trying to prove something doesn't exist (which you can't do anyway).  The arrogance is in saying you understand something so inconceivable in the first place; that you believe in something for which you have no reason to believe.  That's the key to faith, and also it's weakness; it's literally and specifically counter-intellectual, a "leap of faith" to believe in the first place.  How much more so a leap of faith to believe in any specific doctrine.

Fair enough.

I would say most people's internet personalities are different than their real ones. It's the annominity factor, and I've never heard anyone challenge that.

Perhaps that's why I hate MySpace. I know so many people who are really smart in real life, but desperately whore themselves out on MySpace for "friends" or "more than friends" shit. At least with EvilBore/GAF I know I'm being an ass and I openly admit it.

I post on four different boards. On two of them I act like my real self and have some serious discussions (as well as a bit of fun). On Evilbore/GAF? I let loose and don't give a fuck :violin

i "feel" that the right thing to do is far from believing, but more so learning and understanding. i think some religious people try maybe this at first, but when logic and reason come into it, they ignore reality or parts of it, and stick with thier faith
