Official Wii release thread

Who's getting a Wii? I am! 8)

I’m interested in pre-ordering a Wii. I missed out on the earlier pre-order day at my local Gamestop and I’m looking for any way I can snag one.

Nintendo has gone on record to officially state that there will be 2 million Wii’s at launch, but for some reason I have a feeling it will be a lot harder snagging one than we initially thought. The number one reason for this is the game that’s brewing on a lot of gaming fans minds’ right now: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which many feel will probably be a worthy sucessor and spritual sequel to the highly regarded Ocarina of Time.

Pre-orders currently, for me atleast, are a complete mess. The only store that’s apparently going to be taking pre-orders anytime soon is Toys R’ Us (TRU). Upon entering my area’s TRU, after quizzing the workers in the gaming section, I came to the conclusion that most selling this thing still don’t anything about it’s release. I was told that there will be no pre-orders at TRU, and that the basis for buying the new console would be first come, first serve; Which is a complete contradiction to many internet reports saying that TRU will take pre-orders October 29th (my 21st b-day!).

So what’s going on? How am I going to solve this? Will I be able to get a Wii at launch? Gamestop has a pre-order limit, Wal Mart doesn’t allow you to pre-order, nor does Best Buy or Target, and now it appears I can’t pre-order at TRU? I can only hope that what these TRU workers told me is a miscommunication issue on their part.

Either way, I have the feeling that come November 18th I’m going to have to pull out the sleeping bag, because I’m camping out. Which is unfortunate.

TRU hasn't even put their Deal or No Deal whatever Wii contest flyers in the paper yet, so I don't know whats up with them.

I can't wait until this baby comes out.  I have a huge window in my room, and people who can see me are going to think I'm a weirdo.

Ehhhh..I trust Nintendo is going to do a good job with Wii's controls. I mean, they spent a whole fucking year fine tuning this and if Miyamoto himself says that he can't go back to the classic controls then I'm going to have to trust Nintendo on this, something I rarely ever do.

Considering how long this game has been in development and how far they've apparently come in a year's time, I can do nothing but trust Nintendo.

I was originally going to get the GC version first (Wii version has always interested me) because it would be cheaper getting a GC and Zelda TP, but fuck it. I can afford a Wii + TP so I'm going that route.

Count me in. Xbox is for pedos and Ken's got another thing coming if he expects me to get two jobs when I haven't even got one. Buy Zelda for Gamecube, Super Monkey Ball for Wii and spend Christmas revelling in your excellent taste.

I don't know who's going to be shit on but I'll explain how it'll go:

With wii nintendo obviously did not go into the same generation and instead has focused on making the system easy to develop for and cheap to manufacture (like GC) and in order to gain mindshare among the average consumer they'll have to get games in a steady stream for every genre and to have every online and customization option available (unlike GC), which MS has shown is extrememly necessary.

Now the only thing that's kept Nintendo from being dead to the ritalin-popping brats during the holidays is the controller.  The loss of possibly all normal ways of playing Nintendo's franchises is a devestating thing, but capitalism has found a way to make this work in Nintendo's penny-pinching little mind.  Over time, they expect the Wiimote to be the perfect (a.k.a. only way) to control many of their games.  They could have made Wii a powerful enough 480P system that could have the multiplatform games in some form but instead we just get a party/mini-games-box that will have AAA games from Nintendo (maybe 1-2 a year from third-parties).  So we have another generation of Nintendo telling us that their system has the best controls and the arrogantly exotic play styles will be just fine.

This is not right.

This is not how you make videogames.

The only Wii release that matters is Metroid Prime.
