as for motherboards, i dunno really, i didn't upgrade my pc in a long time so i didn't catch up to all the new pc stuff, i guess it depends on how much you have and the spec you are looking for (memory standard, based on what chipset, audio support, ports, storage devices...etc..)
of course reviews don't hurt but most of them are about non working drivers that probably got fixed in a later release or old shitty bios that got fixed as well.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131025pretty good so far, no errors or anything and everything working so far on XP service pack 2 with the latest drivers and bios, though i don't use wireless lan and it seems the driver for it isn't all good according to the reviews here or something.
anyway, professor prole and smooth groove are much better at this stuff, maybe they can help you.
