So, I've pretty much played out Civ4 single player (I haven't gotten, nor can I afford Beyond the Sword), but I'm thinking about dabbling in multiplayer - what should I expect?

Again, I spent $35 at GameStop and got Civ 1 - 4, with maps and books and commentary and shit.  C'mon, Toxy.  Y'know it's worth that.

For all the big spending the 'pubs want to do, he's pretty frugal, amirite?

Civ4 MP is actually not that bad, because most games really are resolved (for all intents and purposes) in the first 100 turns or so. There's a very strong emphasis on early expansion and conquest in most MP games, and humans are generally VERY aggressive early on if you run into them. Expect appropriate rush tactics.

To be honest, tournaments like the Civ4 Hall of Fame ( http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/rules.php ) or, even better, Realms Beyond Civ ( http://realmsbeyond.net/civ/ ) are far better formats for competitive Civ gaming.  Check those out too-instead of head to head multiplayer it's "here's a save file, who can do best". It works really well IMO.

That's a great price, but I already own Civ's 1-3.

I'll just keep waiting ... and waiting ... expect my "LTTP:Civ 4" thread in March of 09.
