The States Suck
« on: January 03, 2008, 03:16:58 AM »
I just got home from a two week trip touring different countries, seeing all sorts of sites.

Now I'm back home here in the states and... what a shithole. Arg!! I hate that I say egg ayg, and leg layg and pronounce washington warshington.

Whoa.

I've lived in London and Berlin for nearly 7 years, traveled pretty much everywhere in Europe and frankly I couldn't wait to get back to the States.

I've never been abroad. :(

The only similar story I have is when I visited Nebraska last summer for a week. Everything's like totally flat there. I came home to northeast PA and was like "oh yay, mountains!"

The Appalachian Mountains aren't tall or snow-capped or majestic like other ranges, but dammit, they're mine and I missed them. :)

A girl I went to school with had family in Pittsburgh, and whenever she'd come back from visiting them her pronunciation would be all off (water as "worter") and we'd laugh at her.

This is like when I lived in Japan, except I came to the opposite conclusion.

I've travelled quite a bit and after every trip I was so glad to be home.  Don't get me wrong, Singapore is incredible.  But no way would I settle there.

The only place I could see me settling into would be Mexico.  No jokes, fuckers.

I've done a lot of traveling, and I really enjoy spending time immersed in different cultures. Hell, I'd enjoy living abroad in England, Australia or Hong Kong for 6 months to a year, but I'd never want to move permanently. As much as I complain about our government and such, we've got it really good here in the US.
