They make you -find- puzzles as a bonus, as if I have an incentive to solve the ones that are mandatory as it is.

So I pretty much ignored this game until now.  And I click on this thread to find that Layton is a puzzle game, and not a graphic adventure?  YUCK.  Thanks for saving me $30+ guys.   :-*  Apollo Justice comes out next week anyway.

Also you guys are saying that GAF is all over this game?  I remember a few J-Gaffers blowing their wads last year.  Hard to believe it was over a bunch of mini-puzzle games taken from kids' books and cereal boxes.  I too bought into the Hotel Dusk hype and don't want to repeat that mistake.  Hotel Dusk was like Phoenix Wright without the fun.

professor layton just made me do the 8-queens puzzle

WITH THREE QUEENS ALREADY PLACED

what the fuck

I totally googled the answer, I figure if they are getting their bullshit puzzles off the Internet, I can get my answers there, too.

towers of hanoi and 8-queens are the last refuge of puzzling scoundrels

also I discovered the French book version of Professor Layton

it asked me to cut a tarte in 8 pieces with 3 slices. I guess that's localization.

th' fuck? you can't do more than seven if the tart is circular.

f(n) = n + f(n-1)

where n is number of line cuts
f(0) = 1
f(1) = 1 + 1 = 2
f(2) = 2 + 2 = 4
f(3) = 3 + 4 = 7

FRENCHIE MATH LIES

unless the cuts are curved, and we all know there's nothing straight about the french

So I took advantage of Gamestop's 20% + trade in offer on Layton and I'm about five hours in.  I really dig it, the art is great, the music is robo-great, the localization has a unforced charm that's really endearing.  I'm having a great time with it.

I also got a big kick out of finally solving Die Hard 3's water puzzle.  I never got it until the onus was put on me.

It really, really is much more of a puzzle game then a graphic adventure.  Yes, there's a story, and characters you interact with, but its all a blatant delivery system for more puzzles.  Hell, the game doesn't even have any shame about its puzzle pushing.

"Oh hey, its you Layton, I gots a puzzle for ya."
Its a DS game that I'm not embarrassed to play in public, which along with Contra 4, brings my shame-free DS catalog up to an astounding two titles.  I like it a lot, but most of you people aren't me.  I recommend it only to people who figured out that riddle in Labyrinth way before Jennifer Conally did.

Despite being burnt out with Phoenix Wright by case 5 of the first game, stupidly buying the second game thinking I'd play it and almost buying into the Hotel Dusk hype train before playing 5 minutes and coming to my senses, I have a strange desire to play this. Someone talk me out of it.
