OK After playing RE: UC, LCT and GS Wii - Zapper is competent
« on: January 05, 2008, 06:18:08 PM »
The biggest thing that turned me off is that its not really a true arcade gunning experience...

arcade gunning is picking up a plastic gun controller and aiming down its plastic sights to shoot at your targets onscreen.

When I played Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles with the Wiimote alone - it felt really bad. Ever play a gun game without a lightgun where you use the stick to move an onscreen cursor? Icky right? Thats essentially what gun games on the Wii are...except instead of moving an analog stick you drag the on screen cursor around by pointing the Wiimote.

At first I laughed my ass off at this pseudo gun gaming gimmick. Real gun games have you aiming down the sights!

Once you get past all of that - and stick your wii-mote and nunchuku into the Wii zapper shell you can still have some fun on par with arcade gun gaming experiences - but its more like shooting a sub machine gun from the hip (drag the cursor over the targets and squeeze!) in most cases and NOTHING like the pro gaming feel of real shooting. Regardless - the added stick, triggers, rumble and motion sensing of the Wii still manages to deliver an experience as thrilling as traditional arcade gun gaming.

Wii zapper is well worth 20 dollars with the link crossbow shooting game.

I'm definitely getting Ghost Squad when I pick up the zapper.  I really enjoy light gun games a lot, so I can't wait (Big TC4 fan on PS3 oh course).  I might get RE: UC too, but still not as sure about it.

I have played all of the resident evil gun survivor games and dead aim - this game is easily the best of the lot (and im a huge Dead aim fan and will admit this game creams it)

Honestly the first part depicting the resident evil 0 story is way more fun than playing resident evil 0 ;)

Its good but not like at the arcade because of what I describe above....real aiming vs cursor aiming

still very fun and worth it.

allot of the stuff you mention may appear on the PSN as downloads for the Guncon 3 - some of the games you mention are far too fast for the Wii aiming method.

I look forward to House of the dead 2+3 Wii in Q1/Q2 08

After a little futzing with the calibration screen, I'm able to get scarily accurate aiming, with no cursor on Ghost Squad.  And yes, the Zapper helps with that.  Its really not that bad.

Ah, I see.  I had problems configuring the Guncon3 initially (mostly because I had to stand so far back).  What I like about the Wii remote is that I don't have to stand too far away from the TV, so I'm expecting I don't have to do the same with the Wii Zapper (well, if I'm 3 feet back I'm okay, compared to having to be back at least 6 feet with the Guncon3).

wii rox.
Fixed. ;)

How is Link's Crossbow Training? It looked weird from the screenshots I've seen. Is there a story to it or is it just shooting gorons in the crotch?

Its fun - there are three types of stages;

- target practice
- defender (where you stand in the middle and must defend enemies attacking from all sides)
- attacker where you run thru some kind of stage blasting enemies as if it were a third person shooter.

its all fan service like too - one of the early 'defender' segments has you standing in the dessert warding off stalfos rising from the sand and marching on your position.

$20 for the game and the wii zapper os a good deal.

I have only tried the zapper.

ID say it just depends on what gun style you like...I may buy a few different ones for variety...
