Well, Star Trek sounds like shit.

The first impression basically sounds like Abrams, in his fanboy love, shitted all over the franchise for it's dying breath. All the young Kirk academy shit sounds like regurgitated fecal matter.

They could have taken the Doctor Who approach, but now, after 2008, Star Trek will be dead for good.

They should have made one more TNG movie before the cast got too old. One that would have actually gave some decent closure to the series (ala The Undiscovered Country) as opposed to what we got in Nemesis.

Was anything Star Trek even worth watching after The Next Generation and some of the movies that followed?

I heard somewhere that all the odd numbered star trek movies suck and all the even numbered ones are at least pretty good or downright awesome. Is this true?

I've  been watching them for the first time, I'm up to 5 and it's true so far.

Though "suck" is too strong a word.

Have you ever seen the tv show before watching the movies? I've never watched the show, and I'm wondering if the movies would be accessible to a person who hasn't seen the show.

Never seen the original series, no. Not a big follower of any of the later ones, either.

I got the movie 10 pack for $38 shipped.

Only Jennifer Garner could save this movie.

A stocking and underwear clad Garner.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is pretty much "fans only", and Star Trek V is too awful for anyone to want to watch except fans, but 2, 3, 4, and 6 are accessible for non-fans. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is the best so definitely start with that one, and then if you're not scared away yet, ST III: The Search for Spock & ST IV: The Voyage Home form a loose trilogy with II, so I'd watch those two also. After that, you can skip ST V and go on to ST VI. It's a fitting conclusion to the series.

After that, you have the four Next Generation movies, but I can't really recommend any of them. Star Trek: First Contact is the only one that's any good, but if you're not already familiar with the Borg from the series, then I don't know if it would be worth watching or not.

I thought 1 was good to get a feel for who everyone is, I don't know if I'd have liked 2 as much if I'd seen it first.

The middle part of 5 was good, too. Movie's a mess though.,

The "evens" rule with the films usually works, with the gleaming exception of Nemesis.

As far as the TV series go, TNG is without a doubt the best. Honestly, they are all decent except for Enterprise, even though Voyager goes away from the original Roddenberry ideas quite a lot. Plus, and I'm pretty sure that this is not by coincidence, but the most awesome character in Voyager is named THE DOCTOR. Makes perfect sense here.
